As long as it is mostly the will of the people that dictates the form of government. A dictatorial regime controlling what information and ideas the people are allowed to be exposed to is a different story.

My current approach is probably dumb, but the main thing I am trying to eliminate is me unconsciously accessing distractions (Reddit, YouTube etc.). I have basically conditioned myself to always go to such sites, and my body just opens them

I wish we could tackle the core issues and not just the symptoms (like dirty rivers). The real problem here is that a lot of countries simply do not have the regulations / infrastructure / money to handle garbage well.

I agree with you 100%. HN usually has better quality discussions than reddit (for example), but any discussion about Japan seems to have /r/anime level comments.

IDk. I live in Japan and it was amusing at first, but now I hate that everything is making noises, playing melodies and being generally loud.
