Doesn't it seem possible that Myth Busters find Myths that are possible (if not easy) to bust because it makes better TV? I'd be surprised if they thought this was really a challenge unless maybe their researchers had never heard of Google.

I don't see any evidence being provided for the Facebook platform being used to help spammers, other than anecdotal evidence of people changing their login credentials and still being seen to send spam. I think it would be interesting if it

I'm slightly scared that the solution to "wastefulness" is to link all the camera networks together and to use face recognition software. As the system becomes more automated it becomes much more Orwellean. I don't mind have static footage

It was funny I was at the UK Hadoop User Group a couple of days before this feature was announced. As Tom says in the article this was a feature that people wanted for Hadoop and then as if by magic it appears. Tom has done a really great b

This actually correlates a lot to the Paleo diet that was on the Hacker News frontpage a few weeks back. The modern diet is a lot different to the traditional hunter gather diet of people with which we share a almost all of our genetics. Th

I'd like to point out no-one is cheating them out of their business models, they aren't updating their business models to the market. Printers are getting cheaper to make. They keep lowering their prices to stay competitive. In order to kee

This is why it's important to have good UED (user experience design) people. It can be very frustrating for a programmers to work with them because they just don't seem to care how hard it is to create some design they've come up with. They

I couldn't agree more. I'd be interested in seeing an indepth examination of why Britain is failing so badly, particularly with their relative GDP. This story isn't that. It's a diatribe about anecdotes combed from the media.

I think it's good that JustHackIt made Techcrunch. That's cool, I just don't see the value to Hacker news readers to have the TC story submitted when it has very little commentary and generally leads to having 2 stories on the same thing on

I'd still prefer to have a link to the site than to the TC story. I don't see the value in 2 posts on the Hacker news homepage of the same thing. While I don't mind posts from TC being on the Hacker news homepage I'd rather they be posts wi

I wasn't impressed by this list. There were no hidden gems. Most of this stuff is extremely basic for any Mac developer, there were also glaring holes in the list. Examples about how to get things like Bazaar VCS installed from Macports wou

I'm curious how journalist measure happiness over time. Especially how they assess the happiness of people who lived in a time before social anthropologists to study the well-being of a society.

It's an interesting point about the changing role of media as it becomes digital. A friend of mine was complaining that he couldn't share his Kindle ebooks with friends which was something he did a lot when he had actual books. Now he can o

I'm surprised (and pleased) that the author doesn't try to rail at the DRM in the kindle, but does praise the benefits the kindle brings to the market as a whole. He happily accepts that DRM will inevitably fail in books, as it has in music

Do people think that a decent OpenID provider would sort this out? I quite like the idea of using an OpenID provider for everything which had very strong authentication (e.g RSA fob). You'd only need to log in a couple of times a day with a

I was interested in the comment on the blog post, that you should be able to validate any proofs you use or at least have a good excuse. I think this is a general good practice for life. Extolling the work of others that you don't understan

I agree. I'm not sure what his point is given that the request/response format of the data normally provides the serialisation. RESTful services in that respect are no different to RPC ones.
