How would those people have found steady income driving strangers every day without Uber? My mind draws a blank. Uber does not have a monopoly like a stock market. If there's a more effecient way to do this, competitors will find it.

It's similar to children of mothers who all stayed at home. A generation later, many of their daughters decide (or are forced) to enter the workforce, but not all. I see working and non-working moms coexist today without any undue tens

That logic doesn't hold up. The overhead in learning your way around a Google or Microsoft-sized codebase is much larger than learning a new language or framework.

I started an internet forum in 2006 whose audience was almost entirely female. It grew to a reasonable size, not huge, but what was remarkable was a nearly complete lack of trolls, arguments, and bad behavior. We saw that women just engage

On the one hand, that's entertaining and it's easy to laugh at people who don't know those shortcuts. On the other hand: to this day I don't know if iOS Mobile Safari supports finding text on a page.

How do you remember the user has opted out of cookies without storing a cookie? Does anyone have an example of a site with a clear opt-in/out? I'm curious about what's actually stored on my machine in each case. And of course

More young people going out = more cases. Those people infecting their parents and grandparents may lead to more deaths in due time. And it has been news. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/07/03/health/coronav

Well I certainly want Google Maps to act like an app (which it does): panning, zooming and so on. And I'm happy for Hacker News to act like a traditional website. At that point it's a false dichotomy: different solutions for diffe

"Idiotic" is a strong word. The question is: if candidate A answers these successfully, and candidate B does not, is there a reason to believe that candidate A is a better fit for your SQL data analyst position? You may say no, th

Ad revenue has also dropped with DVR use. It's amusing to think about adding 20% of ads to compensate for 20% of viewers skipping over the ads, since it's a race to 100% ads that nobody watches.
