Intrigued by this > After some performance checks it became clear that PostgreSQL was even faster than reading from the file system for our use-case. PostgreSQL uses the file system very efficiently for its data - and it adds a lot of ca

Horrible UI's though.. just look at this. But the idea is cool.

I'm always terrified of Bluetooth mice. I've never seen one with the same low latency as a USB mouse. The difference is sometimes subtle, but it's there.

I'd hope so! The way that a planet is more important than a snowball.

Are you seriously suggesting that we should have empathy for ... fruit flies? Speechless

This has to be some of the coolest stuff I've seen on HN in a while. I'm running 3 flies on my desktop right now, all powered by realistic brains.

I've seen your concept, it's a really good idea!

Fair enough. I'll check it out in the next few weeks to see how the site evolves.

How about a complete rewrite that is not vibe coded? I'm only half serious. You're likely to use an LLM to help develop it, but don't let it take you for a ride. LLM's really struggle with data dense and robust designs.

It's better, but if you push it (e.g. sprint mode), you'll see some nasty GC pauses.

Btw, unrelated, but this is the kind of Vibe Coded AI slop design I see a lot these days. Every single thing on this page has a different color, formatting, and it's just painful to look at.

For day to day LLM experimentation (and even some business use cases), I'd say Apple Silicon would be first choice for me.

Paying around ~$0.25-0.3 per kWh here in South Africa. But you can also put up a lot of solar panels and lower that effectively.

I'd rather spend that weekend actually engineering the game properly and understanding the game loop, the game physics instead of vibe coding AI slop. The performance of the game is horrendous.

Amazing. I'll give it a shot on my 5090. I already tried using vLLM but it ran out of GPU memory. I guess it's likely Llama.cpp will work.

I've heard that before though. I don't think you can compare economies like that since Russia has "near infinite potential" in natural resources, people, etc which Italy doesn't. They can kick into a true war econom

Regarding Microsoft - that's a sad story indeed. The only reason they don't use Win32/GDI+ etc is because it's harder and you ideally want to do that in C++ to get the true powers available to you. I've recently had

For end user apps, I want them to look according to the OS, at least on Apple devices. That's what picky customers. For stuff where design does not matter much, such as enterprise apps that "put food on the table", as you say

I don't think you'd want to in most cases, but adapting to different platforms takes energy and thought. For business CRUD apps you may just want to ignore that and get something out that works well.

I've been using Dart and Flutter for years, but I've never ever met anyone who's seriously using Dart for backend. That would be a very niche thing and not popular with teams.

Native was always the best. It was just time consuming, requiring a bigger team. Now with AI helping out, it's probably the best option by far. I still like Flutter a lot though because you can get stuff done fairly quickly and even ap

I tried this using TestFlight but I get the distinct feeling that this is (1) vibe coded (and as a consequence, a fair bit of AI slop, you can even tell from the UI) (2) Slow and bloated from the get go - just look at the download size, ne

Fair enough but people build simple API's with DB interactions in a variety of languages, Go, C#, Java, Zig, Rust, etc.

So in terms of the mainstream languages, what would you say would be the most ideal language? (At least until Oct takes off!). Perhaps modern Java? .. Or even Zig?

But it won't take off (even within our niche communities) without some scriptability and images and videos. I'll give this some thought. Maybe there is a way.
