I watched a tear down of one of their machines, actually some decent engineering work, but a hairbrained product in the first place. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Cp-BGQfpHQ&ab_channel=AvE

>> modern vehicles are designed for pedestrian and passenger safety Passenger sure, but pedestrian? I’m not so sure. Maybe this is an American thing only but cars continue to get larger and larger, which is great for passenger safety,

You can add many tech disciplines including large swathes of programming to the list of things being threatened by AI.

>> Even today, the privilege afforded by a life in technology and among technologists seems to set a person apart from the rest of the world to such an extent that they almost forget it exists. I agree on your second point, but those

Ironically as a Phd in an ECE department, almost everyone has heard of and uses numpy, but many people have never even heard of pandas!

I think it mostly comes down to the fact that both are seen by many as new, exciting pieces of tech. Plus the fact that a “systems language” is well suited to crypto in the first place. The kind of person who is going to found or join a cry

True, but many people oppose eating even very simple animals (think clams) for ethical reasons, but have no qualms with plants. I don’t think it’s totally absurd to use the authors point to argue that maybe plants reach the level of agency

I much prefer these restrictions be made explicit, rather than the hiring committee silently discarding all the applications coming in from groups they are not currently interested in.

Counter point, maybe it just accelerates the game of cat and mouse already played between bad actors and algorithm designers, possibly leading to faster iteration and improvement of their algorithm to find hard to fake signals.
