Yes but it's famous because it's the exception to the rule. It's definitely a failure to replicate, but that does not necessarily mean that math has a replication crises in the same way the social sciences do.

Did you read the article? This saga is explicitly mentioned and does not detract from the authors point IMO.

Who is the target audience here? And who exactly is paying for this? Researchers who care about open access can and do already upload their work to arxiv and/ or scihub in addition to publishing their work in formal venues.

How? In the fine print for most of these contracts it says something like “up to 1Gb, actual rates may vary based on network load” or something similar.

Symbolic math in matlab is vastly inferior to Mathematica, and the deep learning and reinforcement learning toolboxes are vastly inferior to the offerings in python. However for control system design or digital signal processing I think mat

I think Matlab is starting to realize this, at least at the institutional level they are starting to offer all the toolboxes for a fixed price (much much lower than buying all the boxes individually)

Though I agree we have good solutions to this, I also think it's a more nuanced problem than it seems at first glance. See for example this stack overflow post: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/75677/conver

True, but the airplane still needs to leave the blast radius before the bomb impacts the ground, the 50MT version still needed a large parachute to meet that requirement.

I would bet most techy people my age (mid 20's) are aware of Wolfram Alpha, but maybe not Mathematica.

I recommend trying to befriend some of the graduate students at your field. Maybe try to get involved with research with your professors. In my experience those who go for a PhD tend to be from a wider variety of backgrounds, and more intel

Are you certain you have not rediscovered a previously known algorithm? a common variant of Dijkstra's algorithm finds the shortest path from one node to all other nodes in a graph, using in O((V + E)log v) time and O(V + E) space (and

Well the article title is clickbait, the author wants the web to move to plaintext, but doesn’t actually seem to suggest moving away from plain html and css. (Still a bit silly though since the author does mention latex as an alternative to

Yes but I think the idea of this new paper is to measure the effect of gravity on time dilation for a system that is also subject to quantum effects.

True, but this article is about "insecure overachievers" who work at "elite professional organizations". I think there's a decent argument that these people are largely driven by prestige AKA social relevance.

Maybe the problem is that it’s much easier to make a game now than it was back then. But as a result people who maybe don’t really know what they are doing can make games using huge tech stack.
