If you think there is a business opportunity do it, but what is the opportunity? how do you make money if you are open source and not selling hardware? I think it's a ton of work to actually make something like this that's reliabl

I think people associate “using alcohol therapeutically” with “being dependent on alcohol” which in their experience usually means that person has a huge problem. Take a look at https://www.reddit.com/r/cripplingalcohol

This feels like a marketing move to me, claim your model is so powerful that it’s dangerous, and people will be more interested in using it.

Honestly to me it sounds like you should read the book “how to win friends and influence people”, if you haven’t already. I suspect a lot of the feedback you are getting is not because you only talk about technical topics but because you ne

I like to joke that to make python fast you need to avoid using python. A ton of python stuff is C/C++ or Fortran wrapped in python, numpy, pandas, pytorch etc is what I have experience with but this applies in all domains. A huge part

I agree with this advice, but though I would not overly focus on what skills make a good career, but a little bit of thought was good for me. I chose robotics over a PhD in physics and I'm really glad I did. Physics has a lot of really

What makes you think GPU compute is acting like a commodity right now? AMD has comparable hardware but nowhere near the same margins or demand for their chips.

I mean apps can facilitate actual human contact though, common advice I see is to transition from text to a low stakes in person meet up as soon as possible.

Yes, I have a PhD in a mathy STEM field despite also not being that good at algebraic manipulation. Mathematica is much better at that than I am, I used a lot for my course work and research. Recommend you get a free student copy and just t

Floating point math is not associative, (x+y)+z != x+(y+z). Most of the time the difference is small, but in some cases not (I.E. x = 1e30, y = -1e30 and z = 1, it is 1 in the former case, 0 in the latter). Modern compilers will reorder ope

I clean my dishes because I like having a clean / neat household, "I am the kind of person who keeps my space in order". I find that helps!

Just curious what do you think is bad about the user side experience of chatgpt? It seems pretty slick to me and I use it most days.

That article shows that it takes about 50x as long to train gpt-3 with intel's offering vs Nvidia. At least in the current environment, if you are training llms I think almost no amount of cost savings can justify that.

IMO co pilot has been great for writing boilerplate code much faster. But GPT4 has saved me much more time, it’s much better at generating code, debugging problems, bouncing ideas off of etc.

I’m not sure the distinction between fun friends and mutual interest friends makes sense to me. “Fun friends are noisy, carousing, extroverts; mutual-interest friends are generally rather quiet and sedentary.” It seems to me like from the

I went ahead and read the accident reports, just because I was curious. In one case the AV was stopped at a red light when it was rear ended. In the second case AV slowed down for a person pushing a shopping cart into the street. In the thi

I’m the same way, I “know” bash but I’m not fluent in it, always have to look up how to do very basic things like looping. But for the simple things I need bash for ChatGPT does great as a time saver.

Not convinced that is true, if the universe can be described mathematically then maybe human intelligence can also be written down as some equation on a sufficiently big piece of paper.
