Looks great! I'd be curious to know how it compares to Divshot ( http://divshot.com )?

Is being open about your startup really "bucking the trend"? Maybe I hang out on HN too much, but it'd seem to me that the trend is actually being transparent.

My own take on side projects: http://sachagreif.com/side-projects-from-idea-to-launch/ I think there's a place for small-scale, non-commercial side projects. I've personally learned a lot from them.

This is seriously misinformed. You have no idea what goes into making a site "as simple as HN", and I very much doubt you would be able to write one in a month, let alone a week.

Really nice, but I'm not entirely sure I see the point of controlling the animation through media queries. For me it takes away from the real performance, which is animating the whole thing through CSS in the first place.

Have you considered that maybe the reason the designers you encounter have no clue about function is precisely because you find them on 99Designs?

This is pretty nice for only $99, but I wouldn't be surprised if the map came from a stock icon set.

The part about using iStock was more for temporary landing pages, say, to test out interest for a product. I didn't know it was explicitly forbidden by their terms of service, although I wonder where they draw the line between a "logo" and

I would be curious to see the logos, if you don't mind. It would be interesting to see if I can find anything wrong with them…

Looks cute, but what will happen when you try to scale down that logo?

I'm not entirely sure what your point is. If it's that $10000 is too low to hire an agency maybe you're right. But in my experience it's the upper bound of most initial design budgets on Folyo, that's why I picked that number.

Sorry if the post wasn't clear. The 1k to 10k budget is not just for a logo, it could be for the whole app too. The idea of this post is more to say "if this is your budget, here are the options that are available to you" rather than give o

So I can serve the font from Typecast? Or are you only talking about the CSS, but not the fonts?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Typecast doesn't actually serve the font, right? It always seemed like an extra hassle to have one more service in the mix, I'd rather just pick my font right in Typekit or Google Fonts even if the selection is

May I suggest also trying out http://folyo.me ? It's basically like Dribbble or Behance, except I've personally selected every designer on there, and you can also reach them all at once by email if you post a job.

I would just like to point out that Stack Exchange doesn't use 99designs anymore. Here's just an example: http://www.usabilitypost.com/2011/04/22/designing-ux-exchang...

Maybe it's not so much growth vs degrowth as short-term vs long-term? A country like China that's pursuing a very aggressive short-term growth policy is obviously endangering some aspects of their future with pollution, corruption, etc. I d

Any reason you're not hosting media on S3? That makes it a lot easier to move hosts, too.

I've been hosting a couple WordPress sites on PHPFog ( http://phpfog.com ) as well as DreamHost. For some reason DreamHost is faster, but the PHPFog UI is much nicer. Both have great support (DreamHosts' is 24/7 if I'm not mistaken) and rel

Instead of asking yourselves "what's the minimum amount someone would pay?", you should be asking "what's the maximum?". I'm really cheap, and even I find $3/month ridiculous. It should at least be $9/month, and you should find a way to hav

I love the style and artwork, and if this was an iOS game I would definitely buy it. But for me the problem of browser-based games is just that: they're browser-based, and the browser is just not the environment I like to play in. I'm not f
