...what? Underlying insecurity? You think I'm afraid of computers being smarter than me? Sorry but that ship sailed a long time ago, I can't even beat a chess bot from the 90s. The fact that someone created a mathematical model do

Not sure what you guys think software engineering means, but it's definitely not the same as what I think it means.

Going from O(n) to O(1) on an operation where n is 10 could be a performance downgrade. That doesn't mean it's useless, it just means there's more to it than the big O. Asymptotic complexity is about how things scale up. You

This is just wrong. Understanding the difference between O(1), O(n) etc is essential for literally everyone who writes code. Every single programmer is better with this understanding than without it. You should know the complexity of the co

No. It is a computer program which uses statistics to generate plausible text. It does not do any form of reasoning, at all, childlike or otherwise.

Math requires reasoning and logic, LLMs don't do reasoning nor logic. They just generate plausible text. That's why they're nowhere near AGI.

Pretty sure we're quite a ways off that stuff yet, especially for consumers. But sure, maybe something like that will be reality in the coming decades.

That's why I always approach new languages as a complete beginner. It's tempting to jump into the deep end thinking you know the basics, but in my experience it has a lot of pitfalls. I like to find a book or "web book"

I think it's completely ridiculous how you people just casually imply that a current computer can somehow achieve "damn-near godhood". Hardware is a bottleneck. Better hardware can't be designed, manufactured and install

"The singularity" is science fiction. You can't just infinitely improve software on static hardware - hardware must be designed, manufactured and installed to accommodate improvements. Maybe you could have a powerful AI runni

Well I take issue with the reductive and trite notion that just because an LLM can generate plausible text it's suddenly maybe conscious and intelligent, maybe about to end humanity etc. It's exactly like the crypto hype wave. Eve

I don't need to prove anything. We know for a fact that LLMs are stochastic parrots. That's why they confabulate, if they were "intelligent" they wouldn't just pass off nonsense as fact. They have been fed incredibl

I take a similar approach in .NET. I try to build these Lego pieces as traditional classes - no dependencies (except maybe a logger), just inputs and outputs. And then I have a few key "services" which tie everything together. So

The people who criticize these questions do so out of insecurity - they know they aren't at the level required to solve it, which is embarrassing because it's pretty simple stuff, so they try to poke holes in it and justify their
