I find the article’s mention of the “static smart speaker mirage” unconvincing. I use Amazon Echo at home and have found its voice recognition and capabilities vastly superior to those of Siri. In my opinion it’s fair to say this is an area

I thought it was going to be like Russian, where the "to be" verb is almost always just omitted. That would probably work in English as well, though in Russian, they also use noun cases to help with making the sentences meaningful

I was talking to a lawyer friend about this the other day. I was curious where the lines really are in terms of false advertising and misleading consumers. I know, for example, that part of the case against the tobacco companies was that th

If I were considering buying a Tesla I would 100% wait. Whatever you think of the company, their claims about what will happen in the future are often wildly optimistic in terms of timing. Better just to wait and see what they ship and whet

Nobody cares exactly how a company gets unrealistically high numbers. What matters is as a consumer your experience won’t match the company’s claims. Best would be for companies just to tell the truth. C.f. the “full self driving” falsehood

The article sort of implies this is geopolitical (i.e. the hackers are "attacking" certain countries). I kind of doubt that. My guess is they're just afraid (with good reason) of the Russian government.

I’m a native English speaker here and it’s clear to me. I also think it’s somewhat tricky to express it more succinctly without changing the sentence a fair bit. Essentially it means “it must have been the case that, at the moment we’re spe

I'm interested in if you have thoughts on how to do that in a cost-effective manner. Any links you suggest I read? In particular, I was under the impression solar had been made more expensive by Trump's tariffs. Not sure if that&#

Sure. I just meant for fun or for a project. The biggest cost is probably grid tying, right?

I assume it'd be super expensive to grid tie it though, right? Sorry. I'm a total noob at this stuff.

Serious question. I live in a hilly area where there's a lot of wind much of the time. Is there some kind of residential analog to rooftop solar I could install? Or is the infrastructure just too expensive and complicated for a hobbyis

Are people actually working on this internally at companies? I haven't run across it. But, reading this post, it does seem plausible.

It mentions the days being longer, but what about the years? What even constitutes a year on Mars? Seems like more thought needs to go into how this would work if/when we become interplanetary. Assuming knowing where you are in the yea

I hear you. I just think it's important for my kids to be in contact with the culture, such as it is. I don't envy them having to grapple with the concerns you mentioned. I agree that DARE (which had its share of issues) was a lot

Please read the rest of my comments on this thread. I don't think you should pull your kids out of school. Simply sit with them and help modulate the information. Learning to operate in the context of CRT is simply part of how their li

I'm not overly concerned about it. It's my job as a parent to modulate the information they receive with school, and I'm fine with that. The most challenging part about it is they are asked to do assignments whose responses c

My kids are being taught a lot of critical race theory concepts in their middle school which, to put it charitably, don't have a whole lot of objective data behind them. That said, it's probably reasonable for schools to try to pr

The 20% gain is 100% a consequence of the Fed and the market mania. This experiment attempted in another 5-year span would have worked out totally differently.

My understanding is an attestation is the company promising something is true (not sure if there are consequences if they lie). An audit is a third party promising something is true, with definite legal consequences if they lie.

I once texted a presenter who was explaining something for the 12th time to a slow coworker, “I’m sorry you have to do this.” Thankfully it only showed my phone number and not my name, and it was ambiguous enough not to be totally obvious.

I use my Nissan LKA all the way to maybe Colfax. Beyond that I'm skeptical any modern system can tolerate the relatively tight turns and varying road conditions even in the summer. Still, getting 2+ hours with LKA is really helpful.
