Note that the "it's just cosmetics" argument is flawed. Loot boxes are still exploiting the human psyche to earn enormous amounts of money from a small amount of customers (or whales, as they put it, ugh...), regardless of th

I've been working on a similar use case at work (going from discoursive speech to cli-like commands, using a semi-rigid language), and I didn't find any off-the-shelf purely ML-based solution that would work for us. In my experien

IMO it's two separate things. Both useful on their own right. High contrast is very useful for people with visual difficulties, but might even be counter-productive for certain types of eye strain. I'm under the impression people

While I partially agree with you (that's why I upvoted) in that it's a waste of everyone's time having every website developer worry about dark mode I still think scrollbars and zoom are fundamentally different from a dark mo

I don't think that's ever been funny. What's that, standup comedy for psychos? It's that kind of joke that at best will make you look like a moron and ruin the mood... It's especially sad since the post is otherwi

IMO it's not about "going back to" anywhere. It's not as if we couldn't use different search engines for different queries. This all-or-nothing mentality of migrating away from Google (the search engine) seems flawe

You could always use a packet sniffer like Wireshark and see if you get any DNS request on port 53 after accessing a website.

Only when reducing the entire spectrum of personalities to your 2-bit representation, your argument holds. However, what about a genious which politely replies something along the lines of "I'm very sorry but I don't think yo

Most taxi rides give me a strong motion sickness, while regular car rides do not. My assumption is this is due to the more aggressive and unpredictable driving style (quick, unexpected lane switches and turns), so I think this more or les c

It's not very scientific to set up an experiment to test a hypothesis, then mess up in some way (they forgot to turn voice recognition on) and fix it by changing the hypothesis afterwards. However, I understand they couldn't let

In reply to your edit. You can use something like umatrix to block almost everything (even css) and reader mode will still work, I do this for most newspapers and works quite well.

And how do you decide, given two versions of a source file, if the token was renamed or it was a new one? This looks "trivial" for trivial cases, but I can imagine lots of difficult corner cases there. Depending on how you define

Plus, everything worked just fine without any sort of JS, which is very much welcome when delivering static content like this.

As someone who's also pursuing a PhD in CS, I feel your comment doesn't reflect my situation, or my colleagues'. It's true that I started working on one of my advisor's projects, but the difference between the indus

I'm curious. To me, unveil means reveal information, while the intended purpose for this tool is to hide it. Why do you think it's such a descriptive name?

I completely agree. There's something wrong with that port. With a machine that can run The Witcher 3 on high settings (on Windows), Witcher 2's port for Linux barely gets to 30fps on medium-low settings.

Yeah, but it's usually more about a chance to socialize with other people in the field. It's also interesting to hear other people's talks that serve as a "teaser" for what's in the paper.

However, I don't see a use case for GraalVM in long-lived server applications. For that, regular JVM clojure will do just fine. On the other hand, using eval is almost never necessary in small standalone utilities.

I switched to qterminal from konsole after becoming frustrated at how long it took to load (order of seconds) in my non-KDE system. Another nice feature of Qterm is support for font ligatures, like the ones provided in Fira Code.
