>Old people dying? They had NONE, because people did not live that long. That one's not actually true[0] -- life expectancy is an average, driven by high child mortality. If you beat age 12, your expected lifespan shot up, and age 6

That's an absurd take on it... MDN owes this guy nothing, and this guy owes MDN nothing. But attribution, and the volunteer labor, are not part of any financial transaction, so the question of who formally owes who what is entirely irr

Because the formalization is "fake" -- it's still just as poorly defined and arbitrary as it was before (as social convention), and just as poorly defensible as it was before. It just gives power to the accuser to say "P

It does in the sense of intent -- if they built the tool for the express purpose of avoiding copyright restriction, they would do more than hide it in a random unit test or code comment. Putting it in the README itself would be a far strong

It is my understanding that the only functional difference between a database, and a blockchain, is the elimination of a trusted third party who would have to administer the database (and could, maliciously, alter that DB) AFAICT, this is n

The problem I think is the extreme cargo-culting that exists with any popular technology -- half the arguments against the current flavor of the month really just begin with "no, this is not sent from god, and there do exist tradeoffs&

Its fairly common in fashion brands that the cheaper you get, the bigger the logo. Eg ralph lauren drops from massive, to small top left logo, to tiny, to entirely gone, on their polos as you scale the price range. The usual explanation is

Perhaps not coincidentally the same can be said of chemical warfare -- not so great in large scale war, but fairly effective against poor, untrained militia and enforcing order through fear on civilian populations

More problematic tbh is that excel doesn't really let you configure it for your setting: ideally you should be able to set it up with defaults suitable for genetic scientists, and then spread that configuration throughout the group. Or

I would imagine for a $1000 item, it wouldn't be unreasonable to have a designer try to find a way to be more rugged and still not ugly -- see for example, IBM thinkpads, though they are perhaps the other extreme

My bigger concern regarding NULLs is that its a ternary logic shoved into a binary logic system, and it all invisibly becomes nonsense when your dataset has NULLs in it, and you don't explicitly address it WHERE col1 > col2 is wrong
