Honestly I can't be bothered to replace the fixtures. Edit: looking at the price of fixtures, the economic argument is poor as well.

I've taken every single LED bulb that has failed on me to pieces and it's always the same failure mode. The heatsink compound isn't applied properly to the back of the LED board. The LEDs immediately in the gaps smoke out. Al

You're 100% right but it's very inconvenient to use. For example if you want to copy a buffer to the display you have to track the position and then execute commands to move the cursor to the new region. Less of a problem now in C

Gah I hate these bloody awful displays. You find out regularly that the display's memory isn't organised how you think (linearly) because the early displays were tiny, so writing say a line out on a 40x4 display turns into a night

Amateur here is "unpaid". Usually the obsessive nature of engineers, me included, means they tend to take the work home with them. Back when I was working for a defence contractor years and years ago there were a lot of amateur ra

If you add AppleCare, aggregate that cost over 24 months and sell the handset at the end it’s a good investment. I don’t sell at the end but give my wife’s and my used handsets to the kids and they get two more years out of them. Total expe

Another XR fan here. I went from 6s to XR. It’s much faster, the camera is amazing and the battery life is exceptional. It lasts 1.5 days of heavy use no problems at all. The only compliant is sometimes I pull it out of my pocket and try an

The problem comes is that you are not in control of the scope of the data or the processing of it. Just because now is ok, it doesn’t mean tomorrow will be and once data is leaked unintentionally (look at their disastrous QA at the moment)

Yes MSFT are cancer on a telemetry perspective. I signed up for “new outlook web access” today and it was hammering the shit out of their servers with telemetry hits. Ublock Origin turned these into console errors. They are simply the worst

My first proper job involved oracle. This put me off ever using it again from a licensing, technology and ethical perspective. Just the army of clueless but certified vulture contractors explained the ecosystem. This is how you slowly burn

Unless it’s Azure as they make small company mistakes like forgetting to renew certs... YMMV for anything you can’t see or touch regardless of the size or experience or reputation so far.

I’m not sure it was a joke. I had to deal with Oracle 9i years ago and I still have the emotional scars of being buggered hard for some licenses for it. The only way we could circumvent a lot of cost, allowing us to keep humans on budget, w

Yes. While they were justified this time, it is possible that they won't be justified in the future. Management now is not management then. Anything that outsources control of this level to a third party is a business risk for a compan
