Yes. We had Tandy here which was the UK version of Radio Shack and was a pretty 1:1 match to the US Radio Shack stores. I'm old enough to have been a member of the Tandy battery club. Perhaps unfortunately. The Tandy stores were pretty

Odd path here. I did EE and ended up writing software. All my peers who did mechanical engineering, control systems and law actually ended up writing software as well. All roads lead to software in 2018!

I say this every time this is mentioned but Mimms actually did some brain damage to the budding electronics engineers. The books were cute but left people with a head full of things to be unlearned. This screwed up a number of my fellow stu

I don’t miss these shops in the UK. They were very expensive and literally had nothing in stock here. You’d regularly phone up, confirm stock, get there after a 20 mile drive and then they couldn’t find the stock or had filed the wrong resi

No not a thing about that. I am intrigued. He made us do everything in the fume cupboard though because we nearly blew ourselves up trying to make picric acid from the Jolly Roger cookbook :)

In an IT capacity that does include the NHS. I'm not for a moment suggesting this is right for ref. Individual merit is much more important.

Sorry this is probably my bad. I should have clarified this in the original post.

There aren't enough people who care about it to win the battle so we make sure the victory is pointless.

Totally agree. I don't go near netflix any more and I watch youtube with youtube-dl + VLC. The only subscription services that actually persists for me is Apple Music. And that's because the catalogue is pretty decent, the price i

No I had some acetic anhydride available to me as well (back before it was scheduled). It was the whole job.

To add, this wasn't the method I used. It was more "industrial". I don't want to describe it here as there are a number of problems with it. Firstly, the output is near pure which brings dosage problems. Secondly, the ou

Not here in the UK. Once you’ve taken a public sector position you are tainted.

They can but they don’t pay people much and you have to be morally bankrupt to work there. Very few people fit that niche. After paying £27k+ in tuition fees grad priority is earning so the government chased them off too.

It doesn’t make it ok but it makes it self defeating. We can’t win the ok battle any more as no one up top gives a shit clearly.

I’m not overly bothered about this. Their access vectors are more likely to get noticed in bulk and patched so the entire idea is self defeating in the long run. Which is beneficial for all of us.

Yeah I’ve done that. No luck. I’ve used switch cleaner on swabs as well. Think it needs a new port. However I can’t be bothered to take it to Apple store yet.

Not sure I’d risk this myself. However when I did chemistry at A level at school, with the intention of going into pharma for a bit, I did extract aspirin from willow bark. This is something you can do relatively easily and safely yourself

I think it’s more that people don’t exercise their survival instinct much these days as everything mostly just works. The biggest risk is not having toilet paper for the average person. Thus some people construct scenarios to fill the hole.

Just buy an iPhone. Oh no wait. No hole that decent headphones fit in. Have a 6s with a dicky headphone hole and some nice HD25’s. Not sure where to go. I feel like my time on this planet is nearly over.

Thanks for replying. If your remove it, it is palatable. Stop carrying the flag for something detrimental to the end user. Firstly anything that ships data out of a secure environment is a risk regardless of your intentions. You don’t alway

I’ve seen that and it misses the mark by a mile because the main performance constraint is MFT contention. You can see this because the tools suck just as bad on native windows as on WSL without that in between. Check out 10,000 small files

Exactly that. Some vendors have only just got rid of SSLv3 in financial services as well. It’s slightly scary.
