Honest question: are sanctions that affect normal citizens OK if it's through SWIFT? In my mind that would cause the populace to be more frustrated with Putin for what he's done.

You should lookup Morel by Julian Hyde for something similar as well.

This script is a great pitch why Nix is the future. Using these scripts as a way to give "reproducible" build environments is just doomed.

I find when I do code-search, similar code that is copy and pasted into multiple repositories (vendor code) is always a problem too. Skipping well known vendoring directories would be cool too.

I worked tangentially with Chris at Oracle's public cloud offering. His work and train of thought on how to approach systems was always inspiring.

Wow I remember using Ion back at Amazon in 2012. I can’t remember but I think the order data warehouse was using it … I also now remember back to using something that was akin to FaaS but wasn’t called that. I could give them a JAR of some

Lookup Apache Calcite that does most of what you describe. You can contribute to the project.

This piece doesn't have much substance. tl;dr; starting a huge VM takes time. JRuby and it's active maintainer @headius have been great to work with. Surprisingly a very vibrant and active community.

This article talks about doing fixup changes while working on the "plan". The utility offered though doesn't address the fact that now non-related changes are still bundled together. We've just managed to write the git c

I'm not sure either. It wouldn't take Sorbet much to support both. Sorbet goes beyond merely typing method signatures since you can add variable typing too which helps the static analysis infer more types.

Once Nix moves more to fixed output derivations this will be killer! You can easily upgrade dependencies by having the linker resolve to different libraries without needing to rebuild the world while still retaining a sensible memory model.

Calcite has planning rules to "push down" filters to the underlying adapter. So I could push down filters to Git itself if that makes the scans any faster.

The big idea in Nix is the view that the filesystem is like mutable memory in a programming language. You wouldn't give access to memory raw without any safeguards. (Typical package managers can just arbitrarily dump files or remove f

I love the simplicity of Maven and declarative build tools vs imperative. The problem is Maven has a huge legacy code base and sees very little improvement. Its ability to concurrently build modules is flawed and it doesn't have increm
