Good question. It's worth asking whether optimizations significantly help "most" code. There are some optimizations that make a big difference everywhere: - consolidating pure function calls. This can save arbitrary amounts

I do not use prolog in production, but I frequently use ideas from prolog (program with constraints and a solver) in other languages

To "pay the actual cost" you'd need to get rid of subsidies and the financial instruments/overhead that airlines have. without these things airlines would go out of business even more often than they already do

A plane costs 200mil and a bus costs a few hundred k. I don't think it's "flashiness" ... It's cost. Also, arguably we over fit tragic experiences. Because we lived through 911, we made sure the exact same thing w

Great point. I hope the drinks don't get even more expensive!

You could also 1) parse the source file 2) find the debug info and read it 3) hack the compiler to do this for you

not web per se, but MS Excel has really powerful tools for stock prices. I haven't fully explored it, but I think you may have to manually specify the set of stocks you care about. But you can get prices over any dates etc.

General software tip: don't make a new version if you'll have to maintain the old and the new. It gets annoying real quick. much easier to tell your users to update and be reasonable with the changes I actually don't see a p

Really? I think fold statements are really nice. So often you get what you want by just writing `...`

The errors aren't that bad. It's just a log of what you tried to do. Usually the first error is the only one that matters anyway

Making real objects would be super cool but I was originally thinking just automatically grabbing stuff off of images and putting them in ar which I imagine is much easier

?? Sounds like mosh is the only program in the stack that doesn't support this

▲

the only reason I don't use mosh by default is that ssh preserves CMD+up/CMD+down to jump to the previous/next prompt, but mosh breaks the behavior. If I could keep this, I'd be sold

You also lose $ by not growing your own food, by not servicing your own car, by paying an index fund manager, etc etc

This may be true but keep in mind BA looked like /\/\/\ over the last month, and those were big swings too. Maybe there are reasonable explanations or maybe there's just a lot of movement right now

This would be cool. I usually write up some C snippets and compare what different compilers do with what I have. The compiler explorer makes this really easy

It's worse than that. Many countries publish sums of their regions' counts, and the regions count differently
