Having read the rest of TFA I think my initial reaction is not fair. What they said about kids not being able to put the phones down for a 1hr meeting was surprising to me and made clear how bad the issue is. More power to these kids and to

This is interesting but I can't help but notice how intensely performative these kids are as well, at least how they're characterized in this article. They're wearing Carhartt (an unusual choice for a metropolis like NYC), re

If you use windows, notepad++ is what you're looking for. It was my first love in terms of code editors, and I still haven't found an editor (besides vim, and probably emacs) that handles on-the-fly macro recording and playback li

This post resonates strongly with me. I love the term "a linux evening." This was precisely my experience when I used Linux full time: mostly it worked great, but then occasionally something wouldn't work (some personal examp

These things are going to drive me crazy. I think stuff generated by an AI like this should have to be tagged. It’s infuriating to waste one’s time trying to read an interpret a message (or some code), trying to understand the author’s inte

I can almost guarantee you that people would read that as flippant and tonedeaf "s/he didn't even bother writing anything! Laying off 30% of his/her workforce isn't even worth a tweet to him/her!" But I wi

I should clarify, I'm more interested in the use of "brainwashing" than the use of "literally" which I agree has entered common usage to mean figuratively.

What does “literally brainwashes” mean? I don’t think “brainwashing” is actually a well defined concept. Can you link to an explanation that would clearly exclude persuasion?

Flow is not better than typescript. People who say it’s “better”, what they mean is it’s more strict, which really means more rigid . The rigidity is a complete pain in the ass that’s not well suited to web UI development and leads to all

I think there's a few reasonable reasons. I think 65 might be too low, I'd probably go with 70, but one reason is just to make room for new legislators which is good both to get new ideas & perspectives in from time to time,

I should have added this at first but I'm not saying this policy is bad, I'm not even against layoffs in all cases. Sometimes you hire a lot, sometimes you cut, that's business. This policy does seem better than direct layoff

It all depends on what percentage actually get new job offers internally. If it's "most or all" then it's very different from layoffs. If it's "few to none" than it's very similar to being laid off. &
