I stopped reading when he said, “eh, cancer’s not so bad” and “rich people don’t die from cancer anymore, so we shouldn’t worry about.”

Just wait until Apple releases a Mac mini powered by an A-series CPU. If I had to bet, I’d say this will be the first Arm Mac they will release. This way developers can easily buy one for porting their apps before A-series-based MacBooks

This is why we need single payer and to abolish/greatly diminish private insurance. Hospitals and insurance companies continuously demonstrate the failed state of the healthcare market. Market-based healthcare will always be unworkab

In another sense, doesn’t the existence of long-term negative interest rates suggest that some people/institutions have more money than they can productively use? If so, this would seem to be a pretty clear argument for wealth re-dist

Can this method be used to extract speech by people who subvocalize, that is, where auditory processing is going on in the absense of speech by another? Also, this confirms to me that we are merely, or at least mostly, made of electrified

I’d like to think that this situation could be improved by restricting flows of capital across borders for residential property purchase, and by not allowing domestic vulture capital/private equity firms to buy residential properties.

Why run x86 Linux binaries? Wouldn’t it be easier and more efficient to run ARM binaries? Then you’d only need syscall translation, no? I guess you would also need a thuniking layer to handle binary format/ABI differences. But that

Yes, pessimistic file locking is a fatal design flaw in Windows. Where did they get this idea, VMS? What problems is it meant to solve? Unixen seem to get along fine without it.

I have tons of nostalgia for DOS having first used it in 1992. However, as soon as I used Linux in 1994, it was instantly apparent how backward and hard to use DOS was compared to Unix-like systems. With hardware like Raspberry Pis, not s

Unless we stop burning fossil carbon, pulling carbon out of the atmosphere to create fuels that we will then burn makes zero sense, in terms of mitigating climate change; even if we used solar energy to do this, there would be no net decrea

At least in commercial buildings in humid climates, building air is cooled by industrial chillers to lower humidty to acceptable levels (chiefly to inhibit mold growth I think), then the air is heated for comfort. So it would actually use

Is it possible that a rise in geospatial applications is partly a driver of Postgres’s rise in popularity? PostGIS seems to be the best option for storing geospatial data in an RDBMS (open source or otherwise).

Many Indians already have backup battery systems because the grid, even in big cities, is so unreliable. This may make the switch to solar less burdensome, at least cognitively, if not practically.
