I think I might like leaving my ideas in their raw form, though. I tend to create a bulleted, indented outline of what I'm writing before fleshing it out.

I like the "ideas pane" a lot. I have exactly the same workflow, except my "ideas pane" is just a text file in Dropbox. I work on posts there until they're big enough to paste into my blog. I'm not really interested in running my blog on so

Enthusiastically seconded. Nothing makes me hit the back button faster on a startup/app website than a mostly-empty page with a video on it. Especially when the video is just a close-up of somebody's face talking, i.e. there's nothing that

Waking up at 2.30am to a total service outage sucks, but at least I know all you bastards are awake and screaming too. That makes me feel slightly better. (We're back now. Kudos to Pingdom for noticing and alerting)

It's weird that they would introduce the Medium instance as "new", when it's actually a return -- they used to have Medium instances a couple years ago, and retired them.

I agree completely, but there's a double-standard here. What if instead of (mostly) photographs pinterest was mostly video? Then it would be YouTube, and everyone is pretty clear that you shouldn't upload a video to YouTube if you don't own

Whether or not you think a logo should literally depict a name, I think her point was that the logo was originally intended to be a literal window: the Windows 1.0 logo was a picture of on-screen desktop windows, the 1989 version was a ph

I constantly use overlapping windows. If I'm tailing a continuous log, I don't need to see the full text of each line, I just need to see when the pattern changes, which I can get by having the first 10 characters peeking out from behind th

It's really funny that you would pick an XKCD that is about how sexism works as part of your argument that it wasn't sexism, merely rudeness. The whole point is that a man being rude about another man in this particular way -- by superfluou

Doesn't it sound super-weird though? You'd never talk about a guy's marital status and the attractiveness of his spouse in his introduction at a tech conference; why on earth would you say it about a woman?

Although I admire OSS as a concept, generally when I contribute to an open-source project it's "by accident", e.g. I'm trying to fix/have fixed a bug that's affecting me or one of my customers, and it's easier to contribute the patch back t

While I admire your enthusiasm, the last thing an experienced web developer wants is a "brand new" domain registrar. The primary aspect you want in your registrar is longevity, because transferring domains is a huge pain in the neck. GoDadd

Totally independently of their SOPA stance, I would recommend Namecheap over GoDaddy. I've been using Namecheap for years; they are reliable and have a sane (if not terribly pretty) user interface.
