Not really, you can snapshot virtual disks to get kinda sorta close for VMs, but that's the whole disk and all data. Boot environments are closely linked to the filesystem layout where home folders are a separate ZFS dataset so that da

Note that for me it's "only" a NAS, regardless of OS I don't run other services on it where possible. So it has just a few services running like Smartd, Monit, etc for health checks and alerts for failed fans, overheatin

Boot environments are one of those magic features that when you've used it, it's hard to give up. My NAS has long been on OpenIndiana. Boot environments mean zero risk OS upgrades. At one point I could have gone back to a 4 year o

Except that CommonMark has its own very annoying things. Like loose lists. Multiple lists of bullet points ends up an ugly mess with CommonMark.

It takes a few clicks and entering a password to enable backups. Restore also worked fine the one time I needed it. They can go to Google Drive just fine, Syncthing is only so I have the backups going to my NAS instead. As to ringing, it se

Fiber 10Gb is very cheap. NICs and SFPs from Ebay, fibre from FS.com in whatever length you want. I got a plenum rated 100 ft 4 pair cable from FS.com for $100 or so, and it was only that expensive for the plenum rating as it runs through m

Backups work fine on my Android phone. They consistently go to a folder and Syncthing backs them up from there. Also no problems with it not ringing, Signal is actually the primary way that my family calls each other now and no one has expe

A lot of people moved to Signal because of WhatsApps changes so that advice can thought of as misleading at best. Your suggested alternatives are owned by Zoom and Facebook. I'll stick with Signal.

Garmin watches do all of those things well, including heart rate and fitness tracking/etc. Take a look at the Vivoactive line. My Vivoactive 4 gets >1 week battery life depending on the number of notifications I get (vibration vs ba

Garmin has a wide range of watches, many of which meet most of those criteria. Except for hackable. I have a Vivoactive 4 and I've been very happy with it.

Rclone is more for syncing than backups. Its great for moving files between storage systems and syncing one path to a destination. Some backup tools use it for uploading/etc.

I do this with my Android phone using the Automate app (Tasker would work too) and a flashed smart plug. Phone hits 80% charged and it turns off the smart plug. Charger is plugged in obviously.

Useful contribution, defending a cesspit of hate like Kiwifarm. Or Stormfront. Cloudflares stance is extremely admirable but there should always be a limit. Things like Kiwifarm don't need protection.

There is a huge amount of food options before you get to crickets. Plant based meat didn't come before tofu, chickpeas, lentils, beans, and so many other ingredients and options.
