Yes. I also submitted my article myself ( https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=44148997 ), but the upvotes came in on this duplicate submission. I don’t know who todsacerdoti is, but looking at their submission history, it lo

True, but I tested the Radeon RX9070’s power consumption with a 4K monitor. * ASUS, builtin-GPU@4K: ≈39W * ASUS + nVidia GF4070@4K idle: ≈50W * ASUS + radeon RX9070 (Linux 6.15): ≈80W

Thanks for the advice. I try switching to Wayland every year, but it has never worked without heavy graphics artifacts / flickering / glitches on any of my machines (I use an nVidia GPU so that I can drive my Dell UP3218K monitor)

Yes, I didn’t want to analyze and compare different solutions, I just wanted to share the joy of finding a solution that works well for me. Using hot keys is nice, but hot keys (intentionally) don’t work while my screen is locked. I contemp

The Dell UP3218K monitor I describe does not work “out of the box” on any OS. Even finding a GPU that can drive it at all is tricky.

I use this bootloader in gokrazy and blogged about debugging a limitation in it a while ago: https://michael.stapelberg.ch/posts/2024-02-11-minimal-linux...

Indeed! Have a look at http://github.com/stapelberg/rsync-over-grpc/ , where I demonstrate how to use the rsync protocol (specifically, my https://github.com/gokrazy/rsync implementation) over

I looked at openrsync when I was writing my own https://github.com/gokrazy/rsync implementation (in Go!) and it’s good code :) It’s a shame that openrsync is not 100% compatible with rsync — I noticed that Apple was st

I don’t know where you got the impression that the Go compiler would run on “the production machine”. gokrazy images are built whereever you like (typically your PC, or some more automated setup) and then deployed to the target device. Ther

Hey, thanks for letting us know! I most recently tried the AMD GPU that came with my ThinkStation P620, and it could not drive the monitor at native resolution :( Maybe I should try a 6900XT. Which particular model do you have? How much pow

I wouldn’t say happy, but it’s currently the only choice. Maybe as drivers advance we can have non-DSC links — the hardware should support it per the spec…

Yes, with AMD cards, the 8K monitor only works on Windows. With Intel ARC cards, the 8K monitor works neither on Windows nor on Linux :(
