But the problem is that discrimination is a function of perception, and that is 9/10ths of reality. What the company was trying to do was correct a perceived culture wrong that some people were compensated less because their job was pe

Sure wish they had sent out an email notification to users instead of a slashdotted blog post. Now the question is how long can Linode stand in the face of these sorts of hacks and network attacks in the face of stiff VPS competition.

Not trying to troll here, but in my experience this is true as well. You know what the culprit usually is? PULSEAUDIO ... oh my. I appreciate that audio is a complex solution, but it seems that even suspend issues often come back to, "

I'm not the parent, but I have the same experience with Ubuntu 15.10 on a Lenovo T440s. And I know, I know, Lenovo and their spyware are awful. All the more reason to dump their stock Windows install for linux ;)

Thanks for the kid-gloves reply :) I hadn't considered that there isn't really a central authority for controlling who runs a peer, aside from ICANN, but they have pretty loose reins. Funny that everyone waxes poetic about bitcoin

Given my ignorance of much of these issues, I probably shouldn't be commenting (take my comment with a huge grain of salt). But the idea of depeering networks on the Internet for misapplication of a voluntary protocol seems like the be

For starters, Orion is still planned to cost from $500 million to $1 billion PER LAUNCH. Given that this is a government project, I'm gonna guess closer to the high bound. Second, the Saturn V/Apollo mission was a diplomatic show

Exactly! The Burj Dubai is an impressive landmark to construction, and so are the Pyramids of Giza. But one took 40K manual laborers and decades of work, and the other took a crew of thousands and a couple of years. There are more things at

The problem with your logic is that the current highest hurdle to any of those goals, even the Oort cloud is how much it costs to get anything into orbit. We already know how to construct things in orbit. Getting the massive equipment cheap

Eh, but you're assuming that money to charities is always a good thing. There are a) some pretty terrible charities out there and b) some patently fake charities that are designed as money laundering schemes. The tax code works because

Having worked as an education beat reporter in a number of really small, really wealth-divided communities for many years, I can tell you that state education is unlikely to ever be the solution to the wealth gap. Honestly, from my time in
