Especially if they’re fronting it with a CDN. The only things they should be hitting a DB for would be order process stuff and account mgmt.

This. Cloudflare is dead simple to set up, but curling your own site and setting up a redirect to a cached version of your pages is also trivial for anyone who can competently operate nginx / apache.

I’m one of the chorus. I actually preordered a TOTL Asus Zephyrus Duo about a month ago, and it came in last week. It’s been a dream so far — 16 real cores of AMD 7945HX, laptop 4090, hybrid graphics, two real screens! Main display is a qui

I don’t read any of these regularly, but the Apple One subscription includes Apple News+ or whatever it’s called and that lets you read NYT, WSJ, LA Times, and quite a few others…only works in the Apple News app though. That’s the annoying

FWIW Comcast does this too. Just call them every 11 months and make them give you a better price. It’s dumb as heck and I want to live long enough to see them burn to the ground, but it’s one call I will make as it lets us give the only ISP

If anyone is looking for a somewhat comparable replacement, https://www.rtings.com/camera is the best I know of. Their monitor and TV reviews are amazing too (that's how I found out about them a few years back).

Ah, the good old pass-the-buck-to-my-future-self strategy that is leaving the US with trillions in infra repair bills to be paid by my (millennial) generation and younger.

Agree, I’ll probably never buy another Intel laptop as long as AMD and Apple keep killing it with these things. I was hopeful that the Surface laptops would be good with ARM too but they’re not using the latest chips, they went for low&#x2F

Part of the problem is just raw TDP. There’s only so much horsepower you can squeeze out of 45-65w laptop chips. The brand new Ryzen 9 7945HX is damn fast though, with 16 real cores on a way better node size than Intel is using for their 13

I remember when power wasn’t 51c/kWh and a powerful PC didn’t suck down >1000w. I know we get way more perf/watt these days, but I don’t feel as a user like that translates into a notably better experience. For most things for

On targeting, is anyone else shocked at how, even with all this data on us, ads are still so awful and irrelevant? I probably get ads that I’m most interested in on Instagram, where I’ve actually purchased things based on seeing them in ads

But why, when we can inject billions into the pockets of ATT, Comcast, Verizon, and friends. It’s far too lucrative an opportunity to let any more infrastructure ever be public again.

Just fwiw, some offices like mine do have beanbags and couches, and I’ve had lots of great discussions and working sessions in them. Unless it’d be totally out of place (e.g. Telemarketing cube farm or something) try talking to bosses &#x2F

MassGrave exists these days but almost all laptops come with a Win10/11 license anyway now, probably enough legal grey area to CYA for personal use but I wouldn’t risk it for anything for-profit, even a startup.
