As a result there are features missing that you might find in other implementations, e.g. standard Lua has IO but cannot create directories. But getting halfway there on all platforms is better than all the way on one platform and making yo

The problem is tablet PCs, Nokia Internet Tablets and iPads are all different concepts of a 'tablet', confusingly called the same thing. Compare to Macs and PCs which are both clearly 'personal computers'.

You can say that about any law that people disagree with and/or break. But being tired of the argument is irrelevant to whether it has validity. If you don't want to participate in it, then perhaps you shouldn't participate in it.

Lua is cleaner because it's a tiny language. Whether that's better or not depends on what you want from it. But let's just say people don't solve their problems with OOP when OOP isn't a built-in.

Despite knowing only two people with iPhones (brother and flatmate) and nearly a dozen with other smartphones, it still amazes me how 95% of the phones I see on the Tube are iPhones. London is more affluent than the rest of the country, how

It might be only 10% in the US, but it's significantly more than that in other countries. In the UK, getting an iPhone 4 on a £25/mo 2 year contract from any of the 5 major carriers costs you £200-300, and gets you 100 minutes max and 500mb

Not seamless in my experience. There is one site in particular that I need to use whenever my domains need renewing; the javascript menus didn't work in the IE tab, but was just fine viewed from IE itself. Not a clue why.

"1 Way To Go Against HN Guidelines" It's a mixture of basic and interesting tips, I'd much rather the interesting tips be separated out; feels like the author was padding the article out for the sake of a title.

Not sure why you were downvoted, it's called "Canonical Ltd." and besides, you can't trade stock in a not-for-profit company; parent was way off the mark.

Similar sites exist already e.g. Cryptome. It's just a matter of getting information to a source that will publicise it, and whether others have the chops to go as far as Wikileaks, even risking events like this.

That's interesting - I tried to do this some years ago on Windows but found no way to toggle the lights independently of the actual state. Turns out you can, though: http://geekhack.org/showwiki.php?title=Island:7031

In the case of numlock on a laptop you need to be smarter than just toggling the light; many laptops overlay a numpad over the keys, so with numlock enabled hitting 'I' will send 5 instead.

Not quite true though, but again it's speed related (and this is very apparent in C++ projects). It has benefits when compiling a changed file. The smaller your file and the fewer things you include, the faster you can compile it and link i
