Oh, sorry for misunderstanding that. It's true what you're saying, JavaScript wasn't designed for this, and chromium is being repurposed for something out of it's scope too. But hopefully it will evolve with time in the

I used to disagree with this view, since I was "raised" in school to think that raw performance is the only worthy attribute of a computer program, regardless of purpose. Then, when I started working on real products instead of ho

I mention it because that's basically what I keep reading related to it, the fact that it's incompletely implemented right now and some apps that used to work with X no longer do. Isn't it natural to consider it a potential r

Can you please give me a list of examples I can evaluate myslef and decide if it's worth spending my time learning instead of going the Electron route?

Oops, had and typo there, meant to say: reusing the frontend skills... what is weird about that? Here's another example: GNOME shell uses JavaScript and CSS, and it's pretty straightforward to understand. Was looking at the code

No, I do want to learn things, but the choice is simple, you either: 1. Learn Electron and implement an app, publish to all platforms. 2. Choose your target OS, learn the native toolkit, implement the app, switch to other OS, implement agai

Thanks for pointing this out to me, I did not know about it, is it new? I remember a few years ago when I would start "Disks" in Ubuntu it would open the "baobab" tool. Might be just an unfortunate naming colision...

No matter how much I hate the bloat, and no matter how much I don't like JavaScript as and language due to it's behaviour around type coercion, I can't help it but to agree with everything in this article. Reusing the fronten

This might sound like sarcasm to us but I've honestly heard people claim this with a serious face, as well as: "I'm not doing anything bad, so they'll never block me". Guess it's not a problem until it actually

Once the export is done and I see something I don't want to exist anymore, where do I request that data be permanently removed (GDPR style)? Asking as I honestly don't know.

No, unfortunately this is wrong. Monzo only seems to have and login for their business accounts. For personal accounts it's still phone only. And business accounts are a recent addition. Revolut has login now, but you can't do any

Try the Tesco Clubcard app. On taking a screenshot you will get a toast saying: "Can't take screenshot due to security policy". This is what I'm referring to in my post above.

Not denying what you said, but I'd want a way to ignore "FLAG_SECURE" as a setting, so when I really want to take a screenshot, I should be able to do it regardless of what the app vendor wants to impose.

You can use scrcpy ( https://github.com/Genymobile/scrcpy ) to bypass the policy if you really need to have a screenshot. All you need is to have a Linux laptop at hand, debug mode enabled, and a USB cable plugged in. Su
