Haters gonna hate...everything. Anyone who mutilates a bicycle like this has deep seated psychological issues that go way beyond planning and any gentrification issues.

It's not white box if it doesn't support ONIe. You can't replace the OS on an Arista switch. You're stuck with EOS.

White box silicon is OK if you're deploying a campus, deploying a cloud where customers have no insight into the network, or situations where small packet performance doesn't matter. Everyone uses Broadcom (even though Mellanox sp

MACs aren't unique and can be changed. Certain fly by night Asian manufacturers just make up MACs randomly. It's a big problem with counterfeit gear, too. They are supposed to be unique, but in the real world they are not.

Perhaps, but it's gone on for generations. Are you old enough to remember the "Vote for the Crook! It's important!" bumper stickers? For those not familiar with the background, it's a reference to the gubernatorial

This was Microsoft's strategy post-dotcom implosion. "We have more money than everyone. Hire all the smart people even if we don't have anything for them to do." It worked until...Google.

At Microsoft, we called a lot of these people in Group B, "volunteers". They were with the company through the glory years and had great wealth. They just wanted to come to work every day because they liked saying that they worked

I've often wondered who are the people who have the ability and power to change the city? Is it a matter of the right people not caring, or is it beyond saving at this point? Or maybe we should really treat it as The City That Care For

A little background about myself: I was born and raised in New Orleans to a middle class family that valued education (both parents 1600 SAT and English majors, MD, and MA). I went to one of the best private schools in the New Orleans area,

Since when is tunneling a response to running out of IPv4 addresses? Do you mean v6 tunnel brokers? That's a response to not supporting native v6, not running out of v4 space.

TYPE_FASTER posted something along the lines of what I was looking for. I was looking for something more substantial than a one liner in a NPR article. That's exactly the stuff I was trying to avoid. I'll stop shouting at the monk

Not sure, that's why I'm asking. Rehab? Government provided drugs? Safe places for taking drugs that also provide the drugs? If there's someone on drugs that wants to be on drugs, I think a real possibility is that we keep gi

I live in San Francisco and the majority of street junkies here are on heroin. The junkies here are strung out on the sidewalk and my doorway, not in a grubby drug den. Maybe that's what I'm faced with so that's what I care a

Yeah, I'm really looking for a good study that isn't behind a medical pay wall or requires professional creds to read. The 95% drop in HIV is a great side stat, but really looking more on stats for rehab programs.

Generally curious what the efficacy rates of opioid rehabilitation are. How many times does it take for someone to kick heroin? For how long? What's the cost breakdown for a turn in rehab?

Datacenter REITs have been a great moneymaker for me: EQIX, DLR, DFT (being acquired by DLR), and a few others like COR, INXN, and CONE. Buy it, hold it, wait for it to double, sell half, then let the rest ride for free and reinvest the ori

Memory fragmentation isn't an issue with memcached like it is for Redis. Given enough uptime and object churn, redis will use all the memory on a server and trigger OOM's. This is because redis counts the total amount of memory us
