Why not leave that responsibility to something else like bird, quagga, etc? Those have been doing the job just fine for years. A lot of this sounds like rewriting the wheel in Go because Go is "hip". Do one thing, and do it well.

I'll put on my djb hat here, I'd avoid combining authoritative and recursive resolving servers in the same process. That is, unless you want to end up like bind.

What does "BGP support" mean for a DNS resolver? Generally curious, as the internet ran fine for decades without combining the two.

Must be about ten years since I was last in Bali, but I distinctly remember paying both an entrance and exit visa when visiting. Only Bali downside, the beachy parts can get overrun with Australians acting the way Americans do in Tijuana.

It wasn't always prime real estate. In San Jose, they were on 2nd Street, which is a no man's land due to high crime. They got lots of concessions from the city to go there, but still couldn't make it.

These large companies need much more SDN in their operations like NTT GIN. I think GIN only has 50 people in their entire organization to run that whole business. They do it by investing heavily in software (and not building out their own f

Telia de-peering with Cogent was bigger. And as others have pointed out, Cogent is frequently a bad partner in these disputes.

I know that the BMC isn't the same as the ME, but in his case that's the BMC getting an IP and default web login for admin/admin. It's not the ME. BMC doesn't always use a dedicated physical port, and it's comm

It comes down to politics really. While Silicon Valley has a large Libertarian contingent, European tech crowds are dominated by statists. The statists are fundamentally opposed to bitcoin on many levels, so the vitriol runs hot and heavy t

I'd hardly call 4th and Rose "high-end" though. That was kind of my point. Even the periphery, fringe places are coming up to SF levels.

This is the first I've heard that Google Cloud is cheaper than doing it yourself. All of the conversations I've had (and some pricing I've seen) say otherwise. Do they actually give 85% discounts, because that's what it

You need a car in LA, not SF so there's the cost of car ownership. Venice and Santa Monica have skyrocketed the past 3 years due to Snap. $9500/mo for a 2BR at 4th and Rose? Happening location, but that's much higher than SF.

They're already in Google Cloud. One could argue that's preventing them from keeping costs low. Google Cloud is tremendously expensive in op-ex at Snap's scale. You're paying Google instead of having a good ops team(s).

LA (at least in the places you'd want to live) is no longer cheaper than SF. This data set is flawed.

70% of kids can't be hip and cool. It's a numbers game where being the winner means losing cool cred. For example, do your parents have iPhones? Anything your parents are into instantly loses cool.

By your own definition, how are kids with iPhones cool? They're the choice of old people everywhere. Every teen I see has some sort of jazzed up Android (phablet). It's like the Porsche 911. Great car, but definitely not cool. 3&#

How does Netflix handle applications that don't have certificate/key hot reload capability? MySQL is especially guilty of this. It's a PITA to force a restart just to reload certs or keys even once a year. I can't imagin

Sorry, not the case at all. If you start poking around on a server that the DoD forgets to lock down, you're going to jail. You're not authorized to use it just because you can access it.

Access and authorization are separate concepts. You can't trespass on someone's property just because there is no gate. This is why companies put authorized use only login banners on servers and network gear.

The NTT in the article isn't the NTT America that you're thinking of. NTT America is the "backbone" company formed from the Verio purchase, then left to do their own thing largely outside the control of NTT Japan.

I bet that Mission residents would complain if they didn't get any bicycle stations. "Why are these only in rich neighborhoods? Why are the poor excluded? Poor people need these!" It's a classic Bay Area story. Any kind
