Keep in mind, this thread is in reference to a story relayed by the GP whereby an elderly woman lost control of her own lights and wanted to go back to manual switches...

43 years old and it's never been a problem I've wanted a new solution to. Don't think I ever will. I remember deriding those clap-on, clap-off devices when I was a kid. Same deal here.

Dealing with code signing bullshit at work this week. I hate that we support Apple at this point. We have like 5-6 engineers who are even capable of doing this work across a massive organization. It's a total nightmare and I'm nev

I had a wonderful remote working gig for about 8 years. My first year was in-office, then I negotiated part-time remote for 1.5 years and full-time remote for the remainder of my time there. This is where I worked for most of the '10s.

I know some folks (all Senior+/Staff level) who worked at Amazon and, while they would never say they loved it, they also won't say they hated it. The common denominator they all share is that working there had such a deep impac

You're hearing from people who had negative experiences and allowing it to color your perspective of the experience of, like, well over 1,000,000 (? I don't really know, just spit-balling here) people who currently collectively

We're supposed to do individual scans. If I walk through a door that someone is holding for me I can my badge and make a quip about Big Brother. A lot of people don't scan in these situations and I think that's a mistake. Our

I know that my employer (big company everyone here knows) is tracking badge scans as part of RTO compliance. I've had conversations with my manager about it because I'm supposed to be in 3 days per week but typically only make it

This entire attitude around denying attribution is unreal. I see it in industry all of the time, especially now that I'm in gamesdev. People pull out all of the stops to prevent certain people or even certain disciplines from receiving

Yes, I take those comments to be about binge drinking. Which, I don't know, I assumed we all understood was absolutely horrible for your health.

The BJJ gyms near me (I live in OC, it's practically the BJJ Mecca -- one of my neighbors is a head professor at the Gracie HQ in Irvine) just aren't that great for busy parents. Classes are at absolutely shit times if you need to

I'll double check when I'm home a little later. You may be right, but I could swear it's a Zojirushi. I bought it in Tokyo on a trip to Japan almost a decade ago.

I've had a Zojirushi travel bidet for years and years now. Battery operated. The thing is a champ. I keep it in the downstairs bathroom (both upstairs bathrooms have bidets installed) but take it with us if we travel anywhere by car.

We had one accident like this when our twins were 3 and immediately bought a portable potty. It uses heavy plastic bags, which sucks, but I'm not going through that again. It goes everywhere with us.
