Those were "emoticons", which used plain ASCII, and were sometimes converted to proprietary icon sets within forums/IM clients/etc. So, entering :-) would render a smiley face sometimes. However, it wasn't a Unicode

Self-hosted vs SaaS is not a binary decision, and I hate seeing it argued like that every time there's an outage. What the hell happened to basic risk mitigation? Offsite backups, disaster procedures, etc aren't new, or unexpected

How is this not a monopolistic, anticompetitive measure? The largest ad company starts a shell coalition so their largest market-share browser can use it as justification to block "non-approved" (competitor's) ads.
