Yup. Going open source requires a shift in mindset when handling support issues. Coming from a paralyzed, complaining-to-vendor position, into taking responsibility and fixing the problems yourself.

Compare it to the cloud. Each company used to have their own DC, now they can use public cloud / service providers. Less and less companies have their own DC, and more and more pay "rent". Is this bad? Perhaps the rent frees
