If we lived in a world where journalists knew the slightest bit about critical thinking: Hmm, I wonder if the cardboard box cuts Finland's infant mortality. Maybe I should look up infant mortality for Norway and Sweden? Oh, it's exactly the

Where does all the bizarre over-the-top Marisa-love on HN come from? Yahoo couldn't actually be wasting money on paying for this PR could it? I'm beginning to think that there is some bizarre Natalie Portman nerd obsession phenomenon going

Biology. Icelanders in the U.S. don't murder people very often either. Nordics make good neighbors. Then again, if you've read the Icelandic Sagas, you'll find that they used to be bloodthirsty enough in pre-modernity. Culture matters too.

Whatever drives violent crime in the U.S. does not seem to be the presence or absence of guns. The white murder rate in America is about the same as it is in Europe/Canada, etc. The black murder rate is about the same as it is in parts of A

To clear up any misunderstanding: Is it ever acceptable to have feelings of anger and hatred? Yes, surely. There are situations in life that demand that response. Are whites the only acceptable target? Surely not.

Using "white" as a casual negative adjective is weak. I can respect non-whites using it as a term of anger or hatred. We're all big boys. But seeing it used as a term of self-hatred leaves me feeling more than a little disgusted.

What is the non-Asian minority percentage of the area where you live and raise your family? If you live in a city with a high non-Asian minority population (ie., lots of blacks and Hispanics), then I respect your opinion (though I disagree)

If you decide to abstain from the normal generic pronoun "because women feel that you aren't referring to them when you use he," then that very logic means that you aren't referring to men when you use "she" to talk about stupid individuals

Mayer is not there to clock hours or save Yahoo with her brilliant ideas. You don't hire a pregnant CEO to get things done. Yahoo has to take a number of unpopular actions in order to get back into the game. Remote workers tend to be medioc

I'm not too impressed by Stephan Guyenet's article. He is wrong about one of his main points that fat is completely regulated by the brain and that insulin does not cause fat gain. You can Google for photographs of people who have done insu

In a world of perfect information, that would work. In a Bayesian world (ours), it doesn't work. Say that you have two types of widgets, widget A and widget B. Both have tolerances that fall along the same normal distribution but with diffe
