I'm not American so maybe I am missing some context. But how did admissions work without test scores?

Yeah, many companies don't want the liability issues. Like what happens if I open my bank account on my work computer? You could argue I can expect someone to be watching but I have no warning that someone is? Here in the EU that would

It seems like quite a light punishment for selling such dangerous products that could literally kill people. The dodgy e-bike batteries have already been linked to several fires. bigclivedotcom takes apart some of the Temu stuff on YouTube

The ‘bullshit’ is often better than the results though. I don’t have to click through a load of cookie banners and login popups to see it.

I’m surprised these haven’t already been banned tbh. It doesn’t make sense that if I bet on the outcome of a football match then it’s gambling but if I bet on the outcome of the Ukraine war then it’s I-can’t-believe-it’s-not-gambling.

This was a really interesting article. > Want to make basic arithmetic operations mean something? Connect them to what they love. Don’t start with the mechanics. Paint them a world where these matter. This reminds me of the famous quote:

In Barcelona, I just use bottled water. The tap water is disgusting due to both the extremely high mineral content, recycled water and the poor quality of the pipes. The osmosis machines consume a lot of water which is quite expensive and p

Yeah, some car washes put the car on a track thing that moves it forwards. I can put it in neutral, but the battery depletes and eventually an alarm sounds. I had AC on as I live in an extremely hot climate so I suppose it is a bigger probl

I did that and an alarm went off after a while - apparently the battery was depleting to levels where it can cause damage to the battery. I only had it in neutral for like a minute too. I just go to the car washes where the car stays still

I've tried the AI mode and it seems to basically give the same results as a ChatGPT query - which raises the question why use Google AI mode and not ChatGPT? (or any other of the similar models?)

I have a conventional (not plug-in) hybrid Toyota Corolla as otherwise I'd have to pay loads to drive it in the city. It does get crazy mileage and drives well so I can't complain. They are more expensive than standard cars though

I've seen more remote job postings recently than in the last few years where it seemed like everything was RTO. The salaries are lower though despite having pretty tough job responsibilities. So I guess companies are taking advantage o

Perhaps - there is a massive gulf between the LLMs and the sort of models required by robotics though so I'm not convinced progress will be quick there. I have a young son and I intend to teach him robotics as a hobby partly because it

We’ve seen this before when the mines and factories closed. Some people will be able to reskill find new work and others won’t and will struggle. Entire communities may disappear or fall into poverty.

I mean you can't really blame them, you guys have salaries that are 2-3x higher than even what we have here in Western Europe let alone India etc. So the best thing you can do for your career by far is simply to find some way, any way,

It feels like massive change to the tech industry (programming, data science etc.) is inevitable with LLMs. Articles like this remind me of the Luddites burning the mills and smashing the stocking frames - sure, they were able to cause some

I think it also becomes a sort of social contagion - in that you are much less likely to have a kid if you don't know anyone that recently had a kid, it feels like a much bigger leap into the unknown.
