I suppose I shouldn't really be recommending git GUI's as I mostly use the command line. I use SourceTree on occasion to get a better perspective when browsing the history.

Git definitely has a higher learning curve, but there are some very obvious advantages compared to SVN. I'd recommend SourceTree for a windows GUI that doesn't suck. https://www.sourcetreeapp.com/
