I really disapprove of what Facebook has done in the past year or two with privacy. It's disgusting. However, I don't really "use" Facebook. I have an account but I rarely post anything on it, and I don't use any of the apps. I just use it

Congratulations to John. He has definitely made a huge impact on the web. I hated Javascript before jQuery came along. Now it's probably my favorite language to work with, and a big part of that is because of jQuery!

You think Adobe software is frustrating? How about proper character encoding on your damn blog? PS: I assume this was posted to HN by an angry Apple fan boy, upset at all the anti-Apple backlash today from Steve Jobs' bullshit hypocritical

I didn't see this so much as "working when I feel it" but more as "wow I sure am productive after a nice relaxing break". I agree that a nice break from the daily grind can be very good for you. I as well find myself quite productive after

You didn't actually read the article, did you? It makes a lot of very good and perfectly valid points. Let me also guess - you own a Mac and an iPhone, and are mad because someone is saying bad things about your precious Apple. Correct?

The whole article really has nothing to do with Flash. Did you even read it? It's about Jobs saying "this is bad for reasons X, Y, and Z", without acknowledging that Apple is guilty of the exact same BS. Example - he basically says Adobe su

I agree it was better when it was all super mysterious. And I know a lot of people have given up on the show because it can be frustrating. But trust me, there are still many many millions of devoted fans who will be sad to see the show end

I agree about the overcount vs undercount thing, but I think Clicky's method is much closer to the "truth" of site engagement. Tabs aren't used much outside of the "power user" world. Typically when people go to a page, it is the page they

The problem is that "bounce" is a broken metric. It implies that people "bounced away" from your site very quickly because they didn't find it engaging. But the standard definition of a bounce is simply a single pageview visit. It needs red

What a fucking ridiculous patent. While the effort behind pulling the actual process off may be quite difficult, the obviousness of being able to do this should not be patentable.

The problem with this article is that he is testing as ONE ACTIVE USER, as if only one person was ever using digg at any given time. Of course the queries are going to return thousands of times faster. Try replicating digg's actual environm

You're either capable of completing a project, or you aren't. If you've had trouble with this your whole life, it's unlikely this will change. It's just who you are. Don't be offended. It sucks, but it's reality. Some people do, some people

Agree 100%. I was a prototype user a long time ago. When I discovered jQuery I couldn't believe how much more amazing it was. I'm a huge jQuery advocate now and would never in a million years touch prototype ever again. jQuery just makes se

That doesn't make any sense. You think an insurance company makes money when you wreck your car? No. Yet there are thousands of them in business. They make money by making the premiums of the insurance cost more than what they have to pay t

A lot of you are being pretty hard on this guy. It's a good story, and if you don't have business experience you can learn a lesson from it. Just because he liked "The Secret" doesn't mean he's some asshat who deserved what he got. Hindsigh
