I think you mean IMAP. Protonmail supports SMTP (the mail-sending protocol; it needs to to interoperate with other mail servers) but not IMAP (the client side mail-reading protocol). SNMP is something entirely unrelated, afaik.

Costs aren't always direct "pay this much to participate in this thing" costs. Having to arrange separate transportation home because you stayed after school past when the buses leave is also a cost.

One big thing Signal is bad at for me is using from a computer. They have a desktop client, but it's just a weird thing that proxies through my phone in a sort of bizarre backwards self-hosting sort of way.
