Just to add onto this: a company I worked for was a somewhat heavy user of a 3rd party api, and they integrated our key use cases into their test scenarios in order to avoid breakage. Depending upon what percentage of Java developers use ec

This article seems to focus on fairly heavy weight threads, but what about green threads? It seems like green threads with proper nonblocking libraries could behave performance-wise just like evented servers.

My title is technically "software developer", so I just use that. Most jobs nowadays seem to use "software engineer" instead. I generally am not a fan of software engineer, because most software seems to involve a much higher level of tria

The more this happens the more the UN will argue that the role of ICANN should be in their hands. Meanwhile the US government will continue to shoot itself in the foot for stupid reasons.

Your local cornershop does more business selling milk, cereal and cans than many non-internet non-startups. So I'm not sure how meaningful your point is.

I find that I spend much less time programming than I did in my early 20's. For work I do 8-10 hours 5 days a week doing programming/server admin/researching. Depending on burnout, I work on personal projects 0-5 hours on Saturday and Sunda

I'm willing to forgive the creators of Python if they didn't optimize their syntax for copying-and-pasting code. Hotfixing is a naturally perilous process regardless of language. I've spent hours tracking down untested hotfixes in Java. Yo

Even though its called weight loss, most people I know want to lose fat, not lose weight. If you skip exercise altogether you'll go from being large fat, to average fat, and finally to skinny fat.

Some of these patents were assigned in the mid-90's. Where has Microsoft been all this time? Patents should have an "enforce it or lose it" clause. Some of these may have been novel at the time of filing. However, after some time of bein

I usually only write tests for more complex pieces of code. For simple code, tests look too much like a violation of DRY for my taste. I do realize that 'simple' can be subjective though.
