Unfortunately I think the baby boomers have had a hand in most of those issues or were too naive to know that they are problems. For example, seniors are against medicare reductions and don't want universal health care. This viewpoint has c

Yea the simplicity is really great. There is a ton of content getting displayed all at once, but it doesn't seem cluttered. You can easily browse all the information and be delighted at the same time.

congrats on catching that bug. I use sqlite for a ton of stuff. I just used it at work a few days ago. It has so many use cases where you need a lite query language and not an rdbms.

I don't think anyone really knows what they are going to do 20 or 25 years into the future. I like coding and expect to code for a while. But, I understand that I have also changed a lot since I was pulled out of the womb 26 years ago.

I still am not a fan of apple and it's views on software patents. I also don't consider Steve Jobs to be a personal hero of mine. A lot of us don't like to say anything when apple or some blogger puts up a tribute to Jobs. It isn't because

Yea, living in a van is a non starter for long term relationships. That was what I meant by single, someone not interested in long term relationships. Probably not the actual definition of single though.

I heard other people calling this lower class tourism, that doesn't really seem to be the case though. It seems like a perfectly reasonable way to live for a single guy w/ a day job or someone trying to build a company. I'm not single, but

Mobile dev being too hard for PHP devs is a naive idea. I think php is kind of a historic language, not many people would choose to use it if they weren't forced. There are obviously a lot of bad design decisions that went into the language

Abstaining from sugar, tobacco, alcohol, or marijuana seems kind of silly to me. I know that the culture on HN is to try to empower people to be supermen and do extraordinary things. But, when I think of the dedication required to abstain f

This all seems a little too hard to believe. I'm not really confident that the CEO has been smoking pot and drinking beer in Tahoe and Hawaii for the past two months. When software companies start to fail, the engineers know it. I wouldn't

Don't quite get what his beef is with Windows 8. It doesn't really seem to be "openness" issues like he is saying. If that were the case why would he have ported his code to Xbox (another closed microsoft platform). If he doesn't like the M

Basically all of modern biology is based on evolution. If you don't understand or believe in evolution, then you don't understand biology. I don't think it's ok for kids not to have a basic science education. Additionally, you draw a false

Definately agree. I think a good alternative is something I used at my old job (when I wasn't required to run a clunky ide). Just use tmux for window management. Use vim for your ide. Use the shell for interacting w/ the OS and automating t
