This book is great, it is very upfront that javascript has significant limitations if you're interested in functional programming. But, I think it lays out a great way to write much cleaner javascript code and ways to avoid mutability.

I think a better alternative is to use python mode for vim and get all the static analysis checks as you're coding. I tend to do half my development using an IDE (java/scala), but I don't really miss any of those features usi

Wow, this is like a magical christmas present from above. I've never toyed around with Unity but have done some android 3d game development using java in the past. But, this will really get me motivated to start working on something. I

This seems to be the approach most new languages use. People in the Clojure community also emphasize using libraries over frameworks. I think the reason is is that earlier adopters tend to prefer this approach and there is a lot of agreemen

I'm not sure I agree with all your points. For programming languages hopefully Python and Ruby will not be going away anytime soon. Javascript mind share is also continually growing. For databases, weren't there other reasons peop

A lot of these client side solutions make it easier to build quick and dirty websites. I have several ideas for how this plugin could be pretty useful on some throwaway sites.

I'm not sure that is completely fair. He was just making the point that using only your keyboard is much faster and there are already built in tools for doing that. He may have just been asking why someone would want to use a mouse ove

I'm curious why you're still using Eclipse. I switched to Intellij at my last job and haven't looked back since.

Couldn't you just use some online faxing service? That would prevent the 360 request/day limit you mentioned. I don't think any place sending mass DMCA take downs would be sending faxes themselves.

What do you think the probability is that someone considering using this framework is also running OS X? I'd say it's pretty high. BTW, wouldn't you say associating OS X with hipsters is a bit outdated?

I got to say the grid layout is really ugly. I think it could have worked if it didn't scale up to the screen size.

I really like your landing page. Do you know of any other game devs that have a playable demo on their landing page or did you come up with the idea yourself?

Nope. I wouldn't have taken many of the classes I took when getting my CS degree if I didn't need to. But, I am glad I took them. This would mostly be the theory, OS, and compiler courses. If you know the full stack and the connections betw

This is fantastic, I will definately be replacing my bootstrap modal code to use your library. This would be great if this got committed into bootstrap.

Since I am developing in Java full time at my current gig, I have come to the realization that you would need to have the mind of a pedophile to write this awful language.

Agreed, these posts (have been far too many lately) are annoying for three reasons. 1) There are better apps to build with Twitter's api than boring twitter clients. 2) There are plenty other clients to build for other web services if that'

Yea, anytime I use a regex that isn't immediately obvious I put it in a function called get_<something>. Unfortunately people that write overly complicated and error prone regexes usually don't choose to document them.

Not sure how Java is better than all the "hipster" languages as you say. It doesn't seem like you're just using some design patterns that are present in basically every language. Clojure has futures too, but the syntax isn't as clunky as Sc

Shouldn't we base technological choices on technology. Considering we're not living in the 1950's anymore I don't think the fear of "Russians" should play such a large role in web server choices.
