I’d challenge this timeline. The crisis was widely announced and understood before the crackdowns you mention. I don’t at all deny the negative effects that came from crackdowns. As you say they shifted a prescription drug crisis to one tha

I wouldn’t recommend anyone read a non-annotated version of Shakespeare.

Why is the answer higher wage requirements and not just removing artificial restrictions that prevent employers from hiring qualified employees from abroad? If you want standards, set them and remove quotas.

Does that package exist because JavaScript lacks a modulus operator (I feel like I remember it having one), or because the operator does/doesn’t coerce things into numbers the way you’d expect? Or is it honestly just laziness?

I was under the impression that the local part is hit or miss due to the efficiency differences between large national/global supply chains and small local ones.

I use Windows mostly, but just FYI VS Code does run on Linux.

Obviously lots of C# development is still on Windows, but let’s not act like it’s 2003. I work on C# all day everyday and most of what I write runs on Linux.

I’m not sure I understand the vscode connection. This is just Azure + Github from what I can see. The thing I don’t really follow is how exactly the client is handled here. Is there something special being done to generate the static conten

Does the life expectancy for U.S. citizens in the top 50% or 25% tell the same story? Edit: of income I mean. Wealth is also maybe interesting

I’ve never read Octavia Butler, but the first paragraph has me convinced. I’ll be ordering a few books tonight.

I would strongly second that endorsement. I would love a new edition taking the CoreCLR more into account but it’s still more relevant than most any other book I can think of.

Just offering my personal opinions (by which I mean biases), Eric is also great. Andrew Lock and Steve Gordon are also great choices. Personally, I prefer nuts and bolts .NET writers since there is so much (and much of it good!) DDD/SO

There’s definitely more there than most .NET devs need to know, but I personally have found learning more about the GC to be incredibly relevant in my day to day work. I would have said the same thing a year ago, now I feel differently, but

If you read one person about dotnet, this is the person. If you read two, include David Fowler.

Just based on my C# experience, this sounds like a terrible idea (abandoning a real task queue for Async/await). 90% of the “gotchas” with async/await in C# comes from people thinking that the task scheduler is bonafide background

The biggest culprit of this kind of thing is usually people doing something with Task.Run thinking it’s a free way to queue a background task.

Any examples of the CDC, FDA, or NIH statements telling us that vitamins have zero effect on COVID? I’d also be interested in statements from the WHO, but that one I wouldn’t be at all surprised by.

7% of either 1) my net worth or 2) the increase in my net worth over the last 18 months doesn’t feel like a “drop in the bucket” and I definitely didn’t donate either amount. So I’m happy to applaud her for doing so.

That’s egregious. Why is so hard to find any kind of report button on the page (on mobile)? I’d like to at least tick some box saying something is amiss but I can’t find anything.

Yea, if they are adding product lines without an increase in revenue that seems (possibly) concerning, though obviously the current economic situation makes it hard to know how to value year over year comparisons.
