AT Protocol is open source, so not proprietary. My understanding is that Bluesky as a company is building a client experience, and funding the development of the protocol, but the long term vision is for open source and federation, so no ce

The beauty of this being decentralized and open source is that, in theory, there would be a large number of possible algorithms (including "no algorithm") for users to choose from. There's an earlier blog post that talks abou

The 60,000+ of us in the Bluesky beta would disagree but sure, be flippant. It's a work-in-progress. As I'm sure you know, you can't build and launch everything at once, so the rather small dev team has a roadmap, and is bui

Interesting, thanks for sharing that. This has been one of the things I felt that ATP got "right", so neat to see that ActivityPub can do it, even if Mastodon doesn't.

Do you ever need to access your library remotely or from iOS devices? That's the one killer app for Plex for me. I can get to my library when I'm on the road (music more than movies or TV). Does Jellyfin do anything like this?

History proves that we have way more CEOs and companies acting out of self-interest, against the common good, than otherwise. So yeah, they should , but they don't.

You and I have different definitions of public space. I've been on the net since the early 90s, and even back then there were no public spaces. There is nowhere online, and really never has been, where you have a right to be, or wher

You're trying real hard to tell people how they _shouldn't_ be doing their work, maybe accept that your opinion, while valid, is just that - your opinion - and that others have their own equally valid ways of approaching their wor

Because, like so many things, context matters. Ads have a place in the world, where we expect to see them (whether we like them or not), and typically most ads are not trying to pass as non-ads (yes of course there are exceptions to this).

Honest question: were you alive during the cold war days? It was different times, and the overwhelming desire to not escalate or provoke was very real, in a way that just doesn't exist anymore today.

For sure, I actually love this idea in theory, it's super clever. :-) I was just pointing out that it's unlikely we'd be in that scenario, since this approach feels like it would imply letting the ad JS run, but tricking it

If Facebook's overall global influence wanes as part of this adjustment, but they remain the social network that people like to use to stay in touch with each other, I feel like this would be a net positive overall.
