The correct way to calculate this (using prices for the previous gen MBP as found on crucial.com) would be $160 for the 16GB kit - $46 for the 8GB kit = $114. Compare that to $200 and it's still more than 50% markup. Of course, these are re

Why can't you plug the car in, and switch on tow mode? Even a laptop with a dead battery works fine when plugged in. I'd venture to say that a tow truck's alternator should be enough to disengage the wheels. Sorry, but this is just crappy e

DO NOT learn yoga from a book. Your body will follow the path of least resistance and trick you into doing asanas incorrectly. That's a major way people get injured or at the very least don't get full benefits from their practice. It is ess

In my suburban New Jersey neighborhood, garbage collection is handled by two private companies. Granted, we're not a serious metropolis, but we're not exactly a village either. The system appears to work, trash gets collected, and whenever

Not only you need a codec designed for streaming, you also need it to be resistant to bit errors. This is a big technical issue that most people do not understand when they compare voip targeted codecs with cellular codecs. In regular voip

Dunno about others, but the reason I'm not yet on Cablevision's 101/15Mbps plan is that they're charging a non refundable $300 fee to get you hooked up. I'm a software developer that works from home. If I won't do it, what are the chances y

In the US it makes sense to use a credit card for everything you can. Federal laws grant you a lot of protections from fraud and bad transactions when using a credit card. Plus many cards come with side benefits such as cash back, airline m

I'm pondering the same question, only for replacing a 5 yrs old first gen MBP. Just bought a new 13" MBA for my wife and was impressed with the thing. Would probably do well as a dev lappy, the only drawback is that you're maxing out at 4GB

He's right, My dad, who lives in Romania, has a 100mbps internet connection bundled with a 5GB 3G plan for about $13/mo. I am paying $60 for a 50/8 pipe, and consider myself happy, compared to other US residents.

Erlang syntax is just that, a (quirky, different, non-mainstream) syntax. Takes about 2 weeks to get used to, and it's simpler than, say, C syntax. The core concepts, such as functional programming and the Actor model will be harder to grok

First of all, for practical reasons, do not learn C++. Sure, dive into C, it'll teach you a great deal about programming close to the metal. But I consider C++ unnecessary these days, outside niches such as game programming. You'll be an or

I, too, do not understand why anybody would use Node.js... when you have Erlang :) And since you speak of Java, I also do not understand why anybody would use that either. If you have a thing for the JVM, at least do yourself a favor and us

Keyword/directive spelling is British and any resemblance of C style conventions is a coincidence, because nobody cares about them in the Erlang world. Yes, Erlang has a weird syntax. Get over it. I do agree to the point that standard libra

Not so clear cut. A needs to put something down for the house, let's say the standard 20%. B invests those $20k at a conservative rate of return, say 5%. After 15 years, B has $41579. Also, A will have to pay maintenance costs on the house,
