I know that Salesforce is committed to the 1% initiative, so maybe this falls into that. 1% can do a lot at their revenue.

I'm an Elixirist, love the idea of "let it crash", and I still code defensively. To me these phrases are more about the guarantees—if it does crash it recovers—and less about dogmatic advice that everyone follows. But there&#

For sure. Recognized. I've been in the situation where it's not a choice. So that is where my view comes from. It probably worked out better for me personally than if it didn't happen, so I'm not upset now.

I think you're right after reading more. Sounds like RSU are expiring. Not sure about options but 10 year is the options limit so that would align with the age of the company.

I'm a bit cynical when I see stuff like this. Is it a way for the company to exit employee shareholders and put that equity into investor hands? Especially at a discount from peak? That can be good for employees (money in your bank is

I believe that self pub can make the most, but I'd be hard pressed to recommend it for a first book. Maybe survivorship bias in the results? I know plenty of self pub authors that never cleared $1000 of sales. But then you have people

Writing a book was a ton of fun. It's challenging but really makes you dig deeper into something you're already an expert in. Really accelerated my own learning while creating a product that shares my experience with the world. Pu

I think I made significantly more working with pragmatic bookshelf than I would have self publishing. That may be particular to pragmatic though, as they have a fairly loyal reader base.

A small tweak to the "old style" plan that I'd look at is running the new service in parallel with the old but not actually taking customer facing action. For example, send all writes to the new microservice when the write ha

I bought a house in 2021 and not only was the mortgage rate 2.75, they also waived PMI for 10% down. I don't think we would've gotten this same house without that combination. Feels like it will be a while before it's that lo

LiveView is also state and components. + It has a view of the DOM to optimize the data it sends over wire. It's a complete way to build complex apps. I've personally built fairly decent complexity SaaS (18mo of dev) completely on

"you just need to write better code to have composition with jQuery" To be clear I don't believe that, but that's analogous to what I hear when I see this. LiveView has composition of components, so there's an immed

"What problem does React solve? You can just use HTML and jQuery to build websites." To me LiveView is not about interactive apps so much as it is a way to build applications, period. You can build in a way that may bring you more

I've been eating the premium blue eggs at my store because they didn't increase their price at all. Even though it's still a little more than a normal dozen, it's well worth it since they taste better.

Yes. Being able to do this at the programming language level is extremely powerful and creates an entirely different way of building applications. My go-to analogy is building a city (lots of individual, isolated, separate stack processes)

I remember when I was learning Elixir—I asked my co-worker / Elixir mentor how Elixir solves concurrent programming, data access, etc. His cheeky but accurate response was "How do you solve a problem that you don't have?"

Thanks for that. My thought is probably just semantics then. I think it's even more nuanced, but doesn't really matter for this type of post. (I am actively writing a chapter exploring this topic, so is has been top of mind.)

We did not say that we got the idea / recipe from this book of course. We actually got the idea from our previous chem teacher who retired the year before. (Meaning first year for the new teacher.) This was in 2010.
