I currently work at Google and my take is that it really depends on the team. If an IC is toxic, the effect of it isn't terrible. If a manager is, the effect spreads and if a manager of managers is toxic, that's a recipe for disas

This. I used to be one of those who opens a tab to read and address this queue later on. I realized it's not efficient (at least for me) because things keep adding up and I sometimes have weeks/months old tabs that I never got to.

It looks like it takes a snapshot of the view of the world at a given timestamp. Let's say we have the model M1 at timestamp t. We have a model M2 at timestamp t + 1. Can we train another model on the incremental changes in models? So

I think this must have been buried in years old docs and layers of design that nobody understands what's going on under the hood. I wouldn't blame either parties, I suppose the process can be improved but it's very subjective

This. I am very uncomfortable working with people who sell their skill of taste. They have big plans and ambitions, but when the real talk comes they fall flat. It's hard to reconcile with them. I see this behaviour in folks who made t

I'm curious to know if it's possible to block those domains which collect my "data". As in, these days it is becoming more and more common i speak something and I see ads a couple of hours. I turned off all microphones b

I think what you are talking about is morality and not honesty. Musk is brutally honest - with the people he works with, with the investors, with his followers on twitter and everyone. He is brutally honest by letting them know on their fac

You are spot on. That style of working or perspective towards policy is exactly what Musk wants to remove at the grassroots level. Agreed that this wisdom and experience is not replaceable. But Musk intends to replace it with something else

I think it's not exactly fair to compare Twitter with his other endeavours. Others are very hard problems. What Musk will do with twitter is figure out an action plan: IMO changing twitter into X will be a viable way of letting it surv

I think success takes a lot of hard work and little luck. Great success takes a little more hard work and a lot more luck. I think Bill Gates, Elon Musk are all examples of great success. It doesn't mean they are vastly different from

One would think people would have more freedom and will explore life far more than today and get into philosophical stuff. But the reality is messy. Imagine a single individual who leads quite a busy life and yearns to have some free time t

Yes, nobody has the claim including Britain. There's no such thing as better claim. This discussion started because people could not reach a consensus on who has the best claim. Saying that Britain has the best claim is going around in

Technically speaking, we don't really know who owns it. But what we do know is that the British definitely doesn't own it. If somebody stole this from the British today, they have no right to complain!

Well, the paper quotes unexpected changes in your adaptive immune response. What's observed is a slight decrease of immune response in mice for a highly specific condition. We don't know how the overall immune response changes. Fo

I suppose even then you'd use a library which solves the problem rather than figure out and build the entire thing yourself. I do agree that algorithms are fun and the basic ones are probably useful in everyday work, but for anything c

I tried to use a split a couple of months before and just couldn't get used to it. I was way better after a week but still felt that my daily driver (ducky one 2sf) is like a no-op for my brain.

If we carefully think about it, someone is going to do it judging from the fact that the person did it purely from textbook based information. I’d rather think it’s better to identify ways to build such things and prevent wide scale adoptio

When I was using my pixel 2, I tried the adapters. They were so bad that I changed 5 adapters in 2 months. Finally, I just gave up. The adapter just stops working. To go a step further, I ordered Google's pixel earphones which are USB-

This actually happens at all levels of organisation. Incompetent people trying to lead the teams often shifts the burden to individuals. P.S: I'm one of those individuals.

I think Google's tooling works best primarily because it's uniform, not because it's the best for all use cases. Yes, they are efficient but that efficiency is worth it at Google scale and probably not required for everyone.
