Well if it's that or give up, a lot of people choose not to give up.

Just curious: why not ride a regular bike to work? I've been doing it for a year now (16.5 miles round trip) and it has been great. I never could find the time to exercise before and now I commute and exercise at the same time. Paralle

I don't know if there is actual widespread resentment towards coders. I doubt it (outside sf of course) but regardless, the desire take down people who have good jobs and salaries, rather than spread the wealth to all is just the worst

I predict, that in the future, there will be a recession. Also, at some point, an economic boom. Feel free to quote me on that. I am unable to give exact dates, but there is a 25% chance that it will begin in the spring (what year, I cannot

Right, if you are underwater this means you basically have to walk away and lose it all. If you are renting you just lose the rent paid, which is a lot, which is why there really isn't a "smart" way to live in the bay area.

that's the worst case scenario. But the thing is that you are basically investing all your money in one asset, you aren't diversified. In order to have enough money left over to diversify you need to make a lot here...like...$500k

If there was a way to live here that didn't suck as an investment that would be great. But there isn't. You can rent (costs the same or more than a mortgage, without the tax advantage) and you'll have nothing left to invest.

My employer provides emergency childcare, and I'm pretty sure I make considerably less money than an anesthesiologist. What would you have had this person do? Leave their child unattended? Do you have children? Who takes care of them i

Did these people not have lawyers? That's what I don't understand. The job of the police is not to help you understand the law. I suspect that the other valet companies had their lawyers send a letter to the police explaining the

It really depends on the way the shares are distributed. I suspect they aren't "screwed" but they aren't exactly going to get rich from this.

Don't know this kid, or this situation, but to commenters here who seem envious, or young people who are inspired: being a child prodigy expires at age 25. Being known for your youth means that once you aren't young anymore you&#x

The $75 million will be used to pay creditors. It's not an end run, it's better than the alternative which would be creditors going after shareholders to recover their debts. (which is why bankruptcy protection exists)

Yup. It's failure. To be less glib: when your company can't pay it's bills and can't get more investment you file for bankruptcy protection.

You are discounting equity, bonus and future raises at bigco that you won't get at a startup. At bigco you can get rsus that are worth $25k all of the time, and 200k some times.

Everyone keeps asking this question. The answer: they are hiring remote workers. But my question: where is the evidence that tech companies are not able to be profitable with their high payroll costs?

Because many intelligent and skilled people want to have children, and they'd rather work in a challenging and rewarding job that pays them enough to pay for child care. That's why.
