We've probably brought in 20-30 candidates for interviews, none of them brought that up as a concern (though maybe it was for the people who half assed it). Realistically, the chance of them coming up with a brilliant product idea in a few

I've hired 11 PMs (from Associate to Senior level) at my startup, and a lot of this rings true. The one thing I'll add is the most important step in my hiring process: After phone screen, I have the recruiter send them a case study that ask

I probably work comparable hours at a startup, and still find time to work out and socialize. You can get a great workout in under an hour if you don't live or work too far from your gym, and a couple workouts a week can go a long way. Ther

Yeah, our teams are pretty small (about 20 between eng, art, product, qa, etc) and sit by each other in open plan floor space, so the lines of communication are definitely open, as long as no one is an asshole. I guess implicit in our inter

In my org, PMs have the responsibility for owning product metrics and business goals. So that means they are responsible for both pulling and analyzing user behavior data, and deeply understanding the impact of each of our feature releases

I've hired a number of PMs for my startup over the last 12months,and by far the most important thing that is overlooked (imo) is the ability to write good specs that are helpful for engineering. You can think of that as a sign that a PM can

If you pre-format the cell as text, any value input will be stored in its entirety. For one offs, prepending any string with ' will force Excel to store as text. For date, it typically does not truncate seconds, so not sure what's happening

As a hiring manager, I also like to verify people's resumes against their Linkedin profiles. I generally find some kind of useful context (something they left out), recommendation or discrepancy on about 1 out of 10 resumes.
