I know this isn't really the point of the article but I was having issues waking up for several hours during the night for the last couple of years. About 5 months ago I started doing a 3-day a week weight training program which includ

Regarding the user interface. On my Macbook Pro I have become accustomed to using i3 UI on Linux and now I feel handicapped anytime I switch over to Mac OS or Windows. The only time I boot Mac OS is if I'm going to be using a browser f

Exactly my experience. I feel like I'm doing DevOps automation when playing Factorio. Since I get paid hourly for my normal work .... I started wondering, "Wait, why am I not just working right now? Same thing except I get paid...

Only tangentially related, but if anyone wants to generate bezier animation paths using jquery's animate function, several years ago I wrote a little utility to help generate the input parameters. http://jqbezier.ericlesch.c

Well, about a year ago I ditched my smartphone for a dumb phone, and the effect of my mental health has been pretty positive. I still engage with the internet way too much through my computer, but I feel like I live a bit more in the "

Indeed. Run on a platform saying that government doesn't work, and once in office govern in a way that proves the premise! Brilliant.

Has anyone actually done this in a real app? The last time I looked for nodejs examples, I could only find small POCs. The vast majority of ReasonML material seems focused on the front-end.

Sort of. You can actually do a multi-container deployment in Elastic Beanstalk. I did that the other day with 1 EC2 instance and it deployed both containers to the same instance. I don't know what the behavior is if you have multiple

Interesting read. I quite like the pipe operator as I think it would make a lot of code easier to read. I would caution people against using some of these "features" though as writing clever code that leverages obscure techniques

My mistake, I mis-edited that. Blind auditions are preferable. The musician's union helped ensure that auditions were blind.

Let's not forget that there are unions for highly skilled labor as well. When I was a classical musician I belonged to a very robust and very helpful musician's union. Everyone I know _always_ had a preference for union gigs as th

Agreed. The general sentiment that I've gotten from talking to people is that they are worried that either China will invade Vietnam (and hope that the US will protect them) or that the Vietnamese government has already "sold out&

It's true that it's not forbidden in Saigon, but it is essentially forbidden in Dalat. I don't know about other towns in Vietnam as I can only speak to my experience.

It's an interesting progression - 5 years ago the Vietnamese government was trying to block Facebook (it was pretty easy to get around). Then they gave up on that and allowed everyone on Facebook, and now they are more concerned with

Thanks for the reply. The task is not stateful. It's just pulling data from a db, performing some transforms, and then pushing it into elasticsearch. I suppose that I could slice the tasks up to be arbitrarily small though having a lon
