It doesn't takes 1000 times the traffic to max out your workers. Imagine if your database (or some other dependency) had abnormally long response times for a minute. I would think that by spinning up more workers than you can support, you s

You may want to provide an inline summary of the issues. There's nothing wrong with providing a link to the full version, but providing only the link makes you look self promotional.

Ruby 1.8 uses green threads, so running multiple processes lets you use all your cores. As mentioned in another post, Rails used to not be thread safe. Right now I'm running a Rails site in production with multithreading enabled, but I'm su

The real Flash "killer" is whatever commercial product they release to compete with the Flash artist tools. The only people who care about Flash are those with investments. Artists don't want to relearn tools, or worse; their worst fear is

From what I've read, Zed's goal is not to be exhaustive training for an existing professional developer, but a gentle introduction for the non programmer. He's leveraging his experience from taking time off to go to music school. http://sh

I suspect this has to do with their prices. At $50, OmniGraffle was one of the most expensive iPad apps I spotted in the app store. I think iWork apps being $10 each acts as an anchor. At $50, I have to ask myself whether I'll really use it

Please correct me if this article is wrong or I'm misreading it: http://www.igvita.com/2009/05/13/fibers-cooperative-scheduli... MRI's fair scheduler means a thread gets an equal time slice even if it's blocked on IO.

I did a minor in theatre (well, the closest my college had). I focused a lot on Mamet. It's easy to take his approach overboard. Mamet is a playwright, and plays are a different medium than film. In fact, his book "On Directing Film," cover

I've had my Nexus One for four days now. The hardware itself is outstanding. The screen is gorgeous, I like the haptic feedback, and there are lots of nice touches like the trackball that lights up. The software has a few great points too.
