Well technically Android runs Linux (the kernel) too. But Ubuntu can be updated. My HTC Android phone only had a single update (almost when I got it) and it's been vulnerable since. I'm not going to replace my phone each time ther

True, but you can whitelist /.well-known/. I don't think anything else uses dot-filenames in URLs, because not all operating systems and software even allow such file names (for instance, the file browser in Windows forbids i

I live in a country with low population density and mobile is quite cheap here IMO. I have an unlimited data plan from an MVNO for around $10. It's limited to 1 Mbit/s though (but it's 4G), and no phone is included. When it c

You don't even have to build the package. You just create a source package and upload it with "dput" or similar. Then the PPA servers will build your package for multiple architectures (usually x86 and x86_64, but a Debian PP

Yes, but Debian and Ubuntu has changed their default shell to Dash (in 2006 I think), and embedded systems usually use some lightweight shell such as BusyBox. So far from all systems do.

Good point. In my country the government didn't even issue ID cards until 2009 or so, and government-issued IDs are still very very uncommon. Here you typically get your ID from your bank.

Yes, but your employer pays taxes too. It's supposed to add up to the same amount (although big businesses often manage to game the tax system in one way or another).

Do you mean plugins such as Flash and Java? These can be enumerated with Javascript code in Gecko/WebKit browsers[1]. AFAIK there's also something similar for IE. When it comes to extensions such as HTTPS Everywhere and AdBlock et

Since February 1, 2013 you can no longer get rent back retroactively [1]. You can still send a complaint but then the landlord might refuse to extend your (usually short-term) contract. [1] http://www.konsumentverket.se/Nyheter/Nyhetsarkiv

I think this is wrong, you can rent out for e.g. less than two weeks (I can't find any minimum actually). See this law (in Swedish): http://www.notisum.se/rnp/sls/lag/19700994.HTM#K12P4 On the other hand, the property(=building) owner (bo

Public transportation is quite good though. For most suburbs it's 15-30 minutes to the city center. If you don't mind (or prefer) living in the suburbs you can definitely reduce your costs a lot.

I'd say this depends on the project and the developers. In some projects reading code is done a lot more often (and by more people) than actually writing code, so then you might want to spend more time on e.g. formatting, documenting, etc

For many people there are also substantial tax deductions you can make. E.g. you can subtract 30% of interest expenses on private loans (ränteavdrag) and 50% of renovation costs of owned houses/apartments (ROT). Now unfortunately these dedu

Yes lots of sites have SPF, but what I've seen most sites set it to soft-fail mode. I think this is because SPF is still sometimes broken in practice. For example, it can fail when there are misconfigured e-mail forwarding (e.g. mail aliase

I agree the blog post should warn about it - but it can be perfectly secure if you do it correctly. I usually put all public files inside a directory inside the repo, e.g. public_html, and/or block access to dot-files altogether in the serv
