That's actually not completely accurate anymore. PG had changed it to take users' average comment scores into account as well. This happened fairly recently, I think. I'll try to find a link later, but I'm just about to eat dinner now.

It has optional arguments which make certain things a lot easier and make it much more consistent with the rest of the language. sep is the separator between arguments, so you can do something like: >> print('a','b','c',sep=

I kept the i+1 separate because the parent noted that this was a trivial example and wanted to make a point about the more general map-filter-map operation. I wanted to make the point that you can do the map-filter-map in Python more succ

I see your point, but I think your Python's not terribly idiomatic and that's a big part of the problem. This is easier to read and understand, only goes through the list twice, and loses nothing in terms of power: [j*j for j in [i+1

If you're going to use these for @font-face embedding, Font Squrrel's @font-face generator ( http://www.fontsquirrel.com/fontface/generator ) is by far the easiest way to get it to work across platforms and browsers.

There are two examples listed: http://ecsstender.org/ and http://ecsstender.org/demos/spoon/ . On Firefox 3.6, they both hang (for several seconds) as the JS loads/comes into effect (and the "stop unresponsive script" box comes up). Afte

I'm really not impressed with this implementation, at least. Cleaner syntax, maybe, but at the cost of five more JavaScript files for one of the examples. And it looks different in the latest non-beta versions of Chrome, Firefox, and IE,

I find this study rather disturbing. It never even attempts to actually define "study time". There are about 40 instances of the term's use just within the paper and not a single attempt to provide a definition. I'm guessing that it means

It'd be nice, but I wouldn't count on it happening too soon: the necessary APIs don't seem to exist. It's based on the gdata-python-client library ( http://code.google.com/p/gdata-python-client/ ) for accessing Google Data APIs, and the c

I'd argue that if you don't focus your efforts on the things that really matter to you you're going to have a tough time transcending mediocrity for entirely different reasons. If you avoid all activities and requirements that you don't e

Doesn't mean the data's encrypted on the server-side though. The person running this could probably access anything written here pretty easily. That's a trade-off you make with almost any cloud service though. If you have a super-secret mil

This is really cool. I've thought about how a host-proof app might be built, but not very seriously. I actually have a pretty simple project coming up that'd benefit from it, too. Maybe this'll motivate me to experiment. Any resources/readi

Before you jump into Scala I'd recommend being familiar with Java and (at the least) being comfortable with the basics of an ML-like language or Haskell. Having had experience with a scripting language like Ruby or Python helps too. Knowing

If you're looking for a Netbook, the Eee PC 1005/1008HA are, in my opinion, at least as good looking as Apple's laptop offerings. (They also have the best keyboard/touchpad of any netbook I've tried.)

All of the time. The universe is pretty incredible. The stories we make up about it don't come close. Douglas Adams said it better than I can: "I'd take the awe of understanding over the awe of ignorance any day."

Using a consistent color and style create a consistent look and feel for a brand. That consistently becomes something people recognize, and that's a good thing. You can't measure everything with an A/B test.

Talk to people. Don't ask them what they want you to build--they probably don't really know. Ask them about the problems they're having, and work with them to solve one. If you've done a good job of that you'll have at least one happy user,

But the data we're dealing with here isn't on the order of a few percentage points. The values range from about 45-85 on most of them, which is plenty large enough to see given a full range from 0-100. And there's absolutely no reason to us

The issue is not at all readability. The issue is that the way the data is presented changes your interpretation of it. If you try to puzzle out the meaning from these graphs you can. But even if you do you're going to have to fight with
