I think I see where you're coming on that. For most of my applications, I terminate TLS connections with nginx. I do use ChaCha for high-speed encryption in other areas, though. The BC libraries have always worked great for me.

I was in the same boat as you until I stumbled on a real, money-saving project. My PetSafe invisible fence wired transmitter blew out, and I wasn't keen on dropping over $100 on a new one. After dragging my feet for a few weeks and do

That's hilarious. It reminds me of playing Papyrus' IndyCar Racing on my PC as a kid. I quickly tired of trying to avoid wrecks and win races. It was much more fun to drive the opposite way around the track to see how much havoc

I do this exact same trick and have been using it for years. It led to a couple of brief and somewhat awkward phone calls with local business owners when I asked them rather pointedly about them sharing my information with third parties. I

A mechanical engineering professor at our institution loves to ask the uninitiated what the difference between the two is. His answer, "It's the intent or purpose for which it's being used."

There was a prior HN discussion around who owns what IP when public funding is involved. It was an interesting discussion for those who are interested: https://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=9268349
